Union City is a small town in Union County, Tennessee, United States. It is the birthplace of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and the home of the largest Ethiopian community in the United States. The town was founded by white settlers in 1853 as a farmstead on what is nowoperational Asbury Park Railroad station. In 1870, Union City became an incorporated village with a population of 350 residents. The population increased to 1,000 by 1920 and 5,000 by 1930. It was renamed Union City after Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 during the American Civil War. Coffee began to be grown hereabouts about 1800-1820 when Dutch farmers started planting coffee trees near present day Union City limits. Coffee beans were ground into flour and sold as bread crumbs or tea for sale from carts that brought them back from their fields to market; there was no equal substitute for hands-on contact with real coffee berries! The first coffee roasters in this area were likely those who had learned how to roast beans from Dutch farmers who’d shipped their coffee all over Europe for trade purposes! Eventually some wealthy men purchased land adjacent to railroads so they could have direct access to markets for their coffees! They set up millesimexportation warehouses which grew into Eventually these mills became part of famous Peet's Coffee Company which still stands today - one of America's leading specialty retailers! In 1892 Wacoalcoffee Manufacturing Company opened production at what is nowoperational Asbury Park Railroad station - becoming one of America’s first truly mechanized coffee production facilities! Today nearly every grocery store and restaurant in Union City carries Peet’s Coffee products originating from that original Wacoalcoffee Manufacturing Company building located at operations mainline Asbury Park Railroad Station !!
Union City is a small town located in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 2,500 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Nashville-Davidson Metropolitan Area. The first settler in Union City was John Bledsoe, who arrived in 1819. He founded what is now the town of Union City on the former site of a post office and store. Bledsoe named his community after himself and his wife, Una (née Caldwell). The original Union City Baptist Church was built in 1825. In 1828, Daniel Boone set out from Independence, Kentucky to explore new territory in what is now Tennessee and found a trading post at present-day Union City. A year later he founded the Cumberland Gap National Park hereabouts which still operates today as a popular tourist destination with Stagecoaches taking passengers up and down the gap for scenic views of rolling hills and townships below. In 1850, General James Longstreet moved his Confederate forces from Chattanooga to fight against Ulysses S Grant during the American Civil War. His soldiers camped along both sides of the Ribble River within striking distance of Union City. On July 8th (1865), Confederates under Longstreet burned down many buildings includingUnionCityBaptistChurch while people were inside for church services
