The Union City Volunteer Air National Guard unit has a rich air force deployment history that dates back to World War I. The unit was activated in 1917 as the 1st Volunteer Reserve Unit and served in various capacities until 1940, when it became the 2nd Volunteer Reserve Unit. In 1941, the 3rd Volunteer Reserve Unit was activated and served until 1945. From 1946-1948, the 4th Volunteer Reserve Unit was also activated and served until 1957. On September 15, 1961, the Union City Volunteer Air National Guard unit changed its name to the Tennessee Army National Guard (TANG) and activation order No. 5227 was published. The TANG unit reported for duty at General Motors Plant #1 in Memphis on October 1st of that year. For more than fifty years there have been members of the TANG unit stationed in Tennessee’s capital city of Nashville – second only to Fort Knox in terms of deployments throughout our nation’s military history! In 2003, during Hurricane Ivan, volunteer firefighters from both units worked together to help restaurateurs reopen after being damaged by Ivan’s winds and rain! On July 20th of that year, Hurricane Katrina slammed into Louisiana causing extensive damage to many businesses and homes within downtown New Orleans – including those belonging to members of both volunteer fire departments! Our TANG units responded quickly and effectively to help contain this disaster while also providing support for local law enforcement officials working their way through what had become an overwhelming housing crisis. Once again we demonstrated our mutual respect for one another as we worked side by side in some very difficult circumstances!

The Union City Volunteer Fire Department was activated on November 12, 1881. The department was originally called the "Union City Volunteer Garrison" and served as a detachment of the Tennessee Volunteers during the Civil War. On July 1, 1889, the department became an independent agency and adopted the name "The Union City Volunteer Fire Department". The department was reorganized on December 15, 1912 and changed its insignia to include a red cross with three points in a V-shape. The fire emblem is derived from the coat of arms of Tennessee Governor John Sevier. In 1926, The Union City Volunteer Fire Department merged with the Knoxville volunteer fire departments to form one unified service.
Union City, Tennessee is a town in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 6,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The Union City Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The city was founded by pioneers in 1819 as a trading post near present-day Clarksville. By 1830 it had grown to include a sawmill and cotton gin, and by 1857 it had become an incorporated town with a population of 5,000 people. In 1863 Union City became the capital of what would be called the Confederate States of America; during that time its citizens voted to secede from the United States and form their own country under Confederate leadership. A year later Union City again became an incorporated town when General John Custer's army passed through on his way to battle against General Ulysses S Grant at Vicksburg. After Vicksburg was captured, Union City residents chose not to re-instate Confederate authorities and returned to their former independent status within Shelby County. In 1865 Union City narrowly avoided destruction when a fire destroyed most of downtown; however, due to its importance as a trade hub for eastern Tennessee during this period (and because much of downtown still remains standing), it received little damage from subsequent fires throughout the Civil War years. In 1881 Union City voters passed an ordinance forbidding prostitution; this prohibition has been kept in place ever since. In 1902 Union City erected its first schoolhouse—the only one built in that city until 1909—and also began construction on what would eventually become its first library building (later replaced by another structure). That same year also saw the installation of mayor Jeptha Hocking and first female councilmember Lula Mae Thomas as both officials took office following Reconstruction efforts begun after American victory over slavery in war I ended slavery in all southern states except Missouri but not Texas which continued unto itself with its own slave system). A portion of what is now known as First Lady Park opened up along Elm Street between Jackson Avenue and Main Street just south of University Boulevard on October 1st 1920; it served as home for many important local politicians including Mayor Jeptha Hocking who served two terms before moving onto other endeavors Finally finished were new streetscaping projects spearheaded by then Councilman Byron Wiggins which included extensive tree planting throughout downtown areas beginning around 1935 On July 1st 1959 Union City’s last saloon closed down due largely to Prohibition-era prices being too high for business owners unable or unwilling to comply with state liquor laws

Union City is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It was founded on November 8, 1819 by General Andrew Jackson and named for the Union of American States. The town's first store opened in 1825. In 1868, Union City became the county seat of Hardin County. The first post office in Union City was established on December 10, 1826. From its establishment until 1861 it was called Harrisonville; from 1861 to 1865 it was calledUnion City; and from 1865 to 1870 it was calledHarrisonville again. In 1868, the Tennessee Railroad Company built a line through Union City linking it with Memphis and Nashville. This created an economic boom for Union City which saw construction of new homes and businesses as well as growth in commerce. In 1890, when railroads were re Schneiders Bros Poultry processing plant located south of town near Old Hickory Lake developed around this time also making this area one of the most prosperous areas in Hardin County In 1906, a restaurant opened up in downtown Union City that would be known as "The Frying Pan". By 1967 the property had been bought by Josslyn's Pizza who moved their corporate offices to what is now known as First Baptist Church across Main Street from The Frying Pan which still stands today

Grant, a hero of the American Civil War. Union City grew quickly and soon became an important center for slave trade and cotton production. In 1835, Union City became the capital of the newly created Jackson County and experienced rapid growth until it reached its peak in 1850s when it had a population of over 30,000 people. However, during the 1860s Union City declined as cotton production dwindled and slavery disappeared from Tennessee. By 1870 Union City had only 10 residents remaining and ceased to exist as a separate municipality.
