The Air Force gift history in Tullahoma, Tennessee begins with the dedication of the first airbase and airfield in the area on July 25, 1941. The base was named for General James "Bull" Hite, commander of Army Air Forces Southwest Asia during World War II. From 1941 to 1945, Tullahoma served as a center for training fighter pilots and bombers from all over the United States. In 1951, neighboring Decatur was established as an air force installation and began serving as a branch headquarters for Tullahoma. In 1969, Headquarters USAF Base Operations moved from Decatur to Tullahoma while Headquarters USAF Training Command relocated from Knoxville to serve at both installations. On May 1, 1999 Headquarters USAF deployed its last combat unit (the 4th Fighter Wing) overseas when it assumed responsibility for global deployments of Air Combat Command's (ACC) First Tactical Fighter Wing (FTW). Since its establishment in 1941, the Air Force has bestowed many gifts upon residents of Tullahoma including: an airbase; an airport; a school district; two army installations; three navy installations; four state military installations; five Rural Community schools; six county government facilities; eight industrial plants and fifteen housing developments. The following is a list of some notable gifts: July 25, 1941 - General James "Bull" Hite dedicated the first airbase and airfield in the area which became known as RAF Tuskegee AAF. This base served as a training ground for fighter pilots and bombers from all over North America during World War II before becoming RAF Tuskegee AFB on October 1st 1946. Tuskegee AFB remained active until September 3rd 1972 when it was closed due to budget cuts by then President Richard Nixon. Decatur AFBestablished on November 11th 1951 became Headquarters USAF Base Operations responsible for all activations at both locations including RAF Tuskegee AAF until 1969 when it relocated to Tullahoma while HQ USAF Training Command relocated from Knoxville to serve at both installations effective May 1st1999 May 1st1999 - HQ USAF deployed its last combat unit worldwide when assumptive responsibility for global deployments of ACC's First Tactical Fighter Wing known affectionately as FTW

The Tullahoma Air National Guard Museum's air force gift history began in 1941 when the first Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft were donated to the city by Colonel John S. "Jock" Reeves, Jr. The planes were used for training and reconnaissance purposes until they were retired in 1949. In 1951, another donation was made when General Electric F-86 Sabres were donated to the city as part of a military exchange program. The planes continued to be used until they were retired in 1976. From then on, the City of Tullahoma started donating new aircraft to the museum each year. In 1981, a donation was made from Boeing 727 Airliners which had been stored at Knoxville Municipal Airport since it closed in 1977. These planes continued to be used until they were retired in 1992. The last donation from the United States government came in 2006 when an Airbus A319 was gifted to the museum as part of a military exchange program between Iraq and Tennessee. This plane continues to be used now as a display plane for the museum's collection of vintage jets and helicopters.
Tullahoma is a town in Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. Tullahoma is one of the fastest-growing towns in Tennessee and has been described as "the new Knoxville." In 2007, Forbes listed Tullahoma as the twentiesieth most innovative city in America. The first settler in what is now Tullahoma was John Sevier who arrived in 1796 on his plantation near present day Lebanon. Sevier named his land "Tullahoma" after the biblical city of Tempeh (Hebrew: תלונה) located south of Damascus near modern-day Homs,Syria. The rise of cotton plantations and railroads made Tullahoma an important center for cotton production from the late 1800s into the 1920s. The town experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations and wartime factories. After the war, development resumed with businesses moving into new buildings constructed throughout downtown by local doctors, lawyers, bankers and other professionals who had returned to town following their service in Korea and World War II. In recent decades, however, downtown business activity has been sporadic and many residents have moved away from the central business district towards suburban neighborhoods east of I-40 or west of Highway 231. Today's downtown area contains a mix of historic buildings dating back to 1805–1810 (such as the First Congregational Church), newer structures erected during postwar years such as Bank One Tower (built 1966), First Presbyterian Church (1948), Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (1937), Post Office Annex (1973), Tennessee Supreme Court Building (1980) and several dozen small businesses including two Dunkin' Donuts restaurants that opened within walking distance of one another in 2006 – making it one of only a few U.S. cities with multiple Dunkin' Donuts locations open at once! In addition to its rich history, Tullahoma offers a wide variety of cultural attractions which include several museums including Robertson Museum Of Art & History; Titans Stadium; Knoxville Philharmonic Orchestra; American Folklife Center; TN Arts Council Cultural Center; Glass House Theatre Company; Creative Artspace Gallery & Archives;TN State Fairgrounds & Expo Hall Complex - all located within minutes' walk or drive of each other across three main thoroughfares: Main Street NW/Highway 231E/I-40W
The first jet fighter squadron was activated on February 6, 1947 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas as the 9th Tactical Fighter Squadron. The squadron's purpose was to provide aerial support for United States military operations in Southeast Asia. On July 15, 1949, the 10th Tactical Fighter Squadron was activated at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and served as a strategic airlift unit providing lift to IX Corps forces during Operation Market Garden. From December 1951 until May 1952, the squadron flew F-101 Vampires from Ellington Field Airport near Houston, TX while being equipped with North American A-6 Skyhawks. On August 3, 1952 the 11th Tactical Fighter Squadron activated at Seymour Johnson AFB in Georgia and served as an all-weather interceptor squadrons engaged in strikes against targets of opportunity over Korea during the Korean War. Inactivated on October 1st 1959 and its aircraft reassigned to other wing organizations or scrapped.

In 1819, Tullahoma was founded by the Cherokee Indian tribe. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources and its location at the junction of two major highways. In 1848, the Union Army destroyed most of the Cherokee Nation's remaining settlements in what is now Alabama and Georgia. Tullahoma was one of the few towns that survived and continued to grow. It became a center for cotton production, which made it an important hub in the region. In 1865, Tullahoma became part of Tennessee after it was admitted as a state.
