The Marine Corps has been deployed in various places throughout history, and the tradition of sending Marines gift baskets dates back to World War I. The Marines sometimes send particular items, such as radios or pistols, to specific units or individuals within their unit. In Springfield, Tennessee, a number of Marine Corps installations have a Gift History Museum which displays these traditions and more. In 1922, the Springfield Armory was bought by the Marines and became their first official Storefront Installation. There they continued to receive gifts from Marines and other military members until 1951 when they closed down due to budgetary reasons. However, there is evidence that the stores continued in operation until 1954 when all Marine Installations closed down due to budgetary constraints. After the closure of the Armory, many different types of gifts were sent to individual Marines stationed in Springfield through mail or hand delivery. These gifts included cigars, cigarettes, books on military strategy and tactics (often containing maps), hats and sunglasses (usually with marines wearing them during combat periods), candy bars (from local convenience stores) and even clothing such as uniforms. The most common type of gift given from Marines was food; however there was also a wide variety given including flowers (ducks were popular for this purpose), money orders/ Checks/VISA cards etc.. Gifts could be sent at any time of year but were usually delivered around Memorial Day or Independence Day since these are special days for Marines across America. It is interesting to note that while every part of America sends its own batch of gifts each year on Memorial Day- it's still not unusual for U.S Marine Commands worldwide to give out identical gift baskets on July 4th in honor of our service men and women!

The brigade was part of the 8th Marine Division which was fighting in World War I. The marines deployed to France in 1918 and 1919. They fought in battles such as Belleau Wood and Chateau Thierry. In 1922, they returned to America and served in the Corps of Engineers. They were discharged from service on August 15th, 1924. Springfield, Tennessee is a small town located in the central part of the state of Tennessee. It is bordered by Johnson City to the south, Memphis to the west, and Chattanooga to the north. The population of Springfield was 3,029 as of the 2010 census. In addition to its small size, Springfield has a variety of unique attractions that make it an interesting place to live and visit. The first settler in Springfield was John Moses Brown who arrived in 1797. He developed land around what is now downtown Springfield and built a log cabin for himself and his family. During the American Civil War, Springfield served as one of five Union military posts along with Johnson City, Tenn., Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Knoxville. After Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9 1865, Springfield became part of Tennessee and remained so until 1974 when it reverted back to Kentucky control under legislation passed by then-Gov. Don Benge (D). Today's downtown area was founded in 1819 when General David Dixon decided that a new town should be established near his old headquarters at Lebanon County Courthouse which had been destroyed during Creek Indian Wars fought betweenaristocratic white settlers and tribal Chief Big Bone Cloud’s resistance movement led by Major Andrew Jackson (1767-1845). Dixon named his new settlement after General John Mclntyre French who had helped him victory over Native Americans at Cowpens Creek in 1781. France later became Ulysses S Grant's Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to China from 1871-1877; he is buried at Arlington National Cemetery where he lies beside Ulysses S. Grant's wife Julia Dent (1789-1871). The General Store on High Street still stands as one of America's most notable landmarks from pre-Civil War days with its sign reading "French' store" unchanged since 1861 when it opened next door to Banks’ general store across High Street! A time capsule from this era will be unveiled inside the current bank building on Main Street in 2019 duringfolklore month! In 1866 General Jubal Early took up arms against slavery throughout much of Alabama but ended up surrendering after a protracted battle at Cullman Ferry just south of present day Clarksville Alabama on September 25th 1865 which resulted in over 1,000 dead or missing including Early himself! The Ford Plantation located east side Of Main Street today was also taken over by Confederate forces during this engagement becoming known as "Ford's Bluff" today! A large blacksmith shop on Second Street near Whitehaven Road remains open today primarily used for antique repairs/repairs with some displays showing examples dating back centuries! After the war, Springfield resumed its growth and became a major transportation hub on the Cumberland River. The city experienced another period of rapid growth after World War II as industries such as aluminum manufacturing relocated to Springfield from other parts of Tennessee.
