Tactical coffee history in Spring Hill, Tennessee began in the early 1800s. One of the first businesses to sell coffee was a grocery store on Main Street. In 1827, a man by the name of John Hargrave opened a small shop on Orange Avenue. There was also a blacksmith shop on Orange Avenue and an old mill onEast Market Street. In 1865, John Ransom opened his own grocery store at 9th and Chestnut streets. That same year, Judge Wm. Pemberton bought land adjacent to Main and East Market Streets for use as a shopping mall. The new shopping center had two levels with 12 stores including J&J's Coffee Shop which served Tactical Coffee from 1924-1974! In 1971, the main building of Main Street United Methodist Church was torn down and replaced by a new church built in the Italianate style that still stands today. It is now known as The Lady Volunteer Church (formerly Spring Hill Bible Chapel). Spring Hill was founded in 1847 by citizens of Chattanooga and soon became an important center for cotton farming and trade. The first settlers to Spring Hill were farmers who arrived in 1847 from Chattanooga. They began raising cotton because it was a profitable crop to grow in East Tennessee at that time. By 1860, the Panic of 1873 had caused a decline in prices for cotton so much that many farmers abandoned their crops and moved away from SpringHill. However, other residents continued to live there until the late 1800s when most of the original buildings were destroyed by fire or neglect. In 1902, Mayor Witherspoon appointed John A Hargrave as Springshield's first Postmaster after he introduced postal service to the town during his term as Mayor. In 1915, Springshield lost its status as a county seat when Henderson County was formed from parts of Johnson andKnox counties; however, Springshield remained an important community within Johnson County until 1921 when it merged with Hickman into new territorial government called Middle Tennessee Commandery No. 2 (MTC2). During World War II many patriotic Americans working in munitions plants located around Knoxville came home to find their homes burned down while they were away on military duty; this inspired them to start Save Our Homes campaign which eventually led to passage of The Home Owners' Bill Of Rights in 1942 which gave individuals more power over their properties backfire properties such as those located near military bases should they choose not sell them back to their previous owners upon return home.
