SpringHill is a small town in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis–Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what would become Spring Hill was made on May 10, 1819 by John Wilkinson and his family from Burnside Township in Pike County, Indiana. Wilkinson named his new community after himself, Spring Hill in honor of the emerging springtime season in England. In 1824, General James Longstreet's army passed through Sullivan County on its way to help suppress the Native American rebellion and discovered a prosperous plantation village with five miles (8 km) of beautiful white-pine rolling hills in which to encamp. The general ordered all the men living there to leave their plantations and move into Spring Hill for military service until their homes could be reconstructed or rebuilt elsewhere within twenty-four hours; most did so immediately. There were no schools then or now and residents soon learned to read and write using servants' children as teachers. The early inhabitants were farmers who raised corn, hay, cattle and hogs for local consumption or exported products such as bacon, eggs and whisky for export to other parts of Tennessee Valley country. By 1830 about eighty families lived here including many Africans who had been brought over as slaves during the antebellum period of slavery in America but had managed to escape before that time. After slave emancipation arrived in America they were forced into various labor gangs throughout much of south Alabama where they worked off their passage fare plus food purchased on board ships when reaching Mobile Bayou state territory along Mobile River delta where they disembarked on April 12th 1865 just days before Union troops surrendered at Appomattox Court House following six months of bloody fighting against Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee

Despite these challenges, however, many residents still maintained their traditional values and lifestyles until the end of World War II when they all migrated back home following what is known asThe Great Migration. Today there are few active commercial businesses left within Springhill; however its cultural legacy remains strong with a large population of descendants living here today that continue to maintain some aspects of their German heritage including dialect speaking methods as well as wearing caps with "Hepburn" emblems on them outside shopping malls throughout Southeast Tennessee!
