Spring Hill is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Spring Hill was founded in 1853 by John A. Davidson and his family. In 1907, it was named for Major General James H. Polk who died during the American Civil War at the Battle of Franklin. The town began to grow rapidly after development started on land that had been donated by Governor John Sevier as part of a land Purchase Scheme authorized by President James Kenedy in 1865. By 1870, Spring Hill had a post office and two stores and twelve residents. When the state line moved westward in 1870, Spring Hill became one of four towns in Hardin County that were annexed into Knoxville proper; Knoxville would annex other towns until it had a total population of over 50,000 people by 1900 Theuel's Mill operated until 1906 when it closed due to financial problems caused by an increasing number of tourists visiting SpringHill for its natural attractions such as springs and creeks as well as its fall foliage displays which spanned eight days each week from September through December . However, tourism continued to be important to the economy of SpringHill until after World War II when automobiles made travel much more accessible with little need for public transportation In 1957, Theuel's Mill reopened under new management which soon became known as Theuel's Chevy Department Store . This store continues to operate today as a convenient center for shopping within walking distance from many businesses including several banks and restaurants

Spring Hill was founded in 1796 by James Robertson and is the oldest remaining town in Tennessee. The town was named for General John Sevier, who fought in the American Revolution. Spring Hill was incorporated as a city on December 12, 1907. The population of Spring Hill increased rapidly during World War II due to the military base located there. The city's economy changed after the war when new factories were built in nearby Chattanooga. Today, Spring Hill is a small community with a highly committed mayor and City Council. The early settlers of Spring Hill were Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in Tennessee between 1796 and 1800. They brought their crops and livestock to what is now SpringHill Creek Road and developed a ranching operation that produced cattle, horses, sheep, and pigs. In 1811, James Robertson purchased land at present day Knoxville Neck Road and developed it into an agricultural center that would house up to 50 people. By 1815, Robertson had organized his first school board which he served until his death in 1825. AfterRobertson's death, his children continued to operate the school board until 1830 when they sold it to David Belcher who served as chairman from 1830-1839 before selling it again to James Hogg who led the organization of the first public library in Tennessee on February 3rd of that year. In 1840 Hogg donated land along both sides of Knoxville Neck Road for housing for local residents which became known as "Belchertown". In 1851 David Belcher organized what became known as the Volunteer Fire Department which began providing fire protection within SpringHill Creek Road area from dwellings on either side of the road until 1903 when responsibility for all combined departments went out to Middleton TownshipFD Office near commercial areas today called "Old Hickory". In 1860 Thomas Wray established one of England's earliest cotton ginners at present day West Point Plantation alongpresent day Baldwin Highway just outside present day Sprague County line where he processed bales of cotton using hand crank spinning mills (now known as wagons). In 1865 Wray sold his interest in West Point Cotton Ginnery & Clothing Mills Ltd., also operating similar looms at present day Antioch University Campus north east corner lot #2 under name "Wray Bros." His business interests expanded throughout East Tennessee beginning with hiring ten men including five native Tennesseans employed at work on Wilkinson Manufacturing Company farmstead located south east corner lot #7 north side First Baptist Church founder Rev.[John] Sayers family Hyde Chapel School closed October 1934 Mr [Harry E.] Covington current owner
