At first glance this seems like a rather large force compared to what then existed on American soil. However, when considering that only about 200 marines were stationed at Boston at the time and that British forces had captured many key strategic points throughout America including Charleston Harbor, it is easy to see why Washington ordered such a large force. The Marine Corps was created after World War I as an answer to soldiers being drafted into other services without any chance for promotion or training. The Corps was designed as an elite fighting force made up largely of young men fresh out of college or university ready for combat against an opponent much larger than themselves. With its origins in infantry units formed during World War I as part of Army Corp Reserve Units mobilized for duty overseas instead of being sent into battle on their own terms like other armies did, Marine battalions were able to serve together under one command structure regardless of theater they were deployed to fight in (e.g., Europe or Asia). Shelbyville is a city in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Shelby County. The community was named for General Andrew Jackson's daughter and namesake of the town, Martha Ann Jackson. The first settlers in what would become Shelbyville were farmers who came to the area from Kentucky in 1814 and 1815. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River near present-day downtown Shelbyville. In 1820, General James Hogg established a trading post here and developed what would become one of the most important intersections in early Shelbyville. He also planted apple trees in what is now downtown and built a store on East Main Street which became known as "Hogg's Store." The townspeople continued to grow crops and commerce grew as well with whitesmiths manufacturing tools, saddles, horseshoes, wagon parts and other items needed by their businesses. By 1830 there were seven stores in town with an estimated population of 30-40 people. In 1831 surveyors arrived to plat out new townships including that for Shelbyville within Lincoln Township; this opened up new opportunities for business growth due to better transportation infrastructure available then than today (the current I-65 corridor). soon after two men by the name of Woodbury bought land just east of where present day downtown sits along Park Avenue; they erected a log cabin as their first stop selling goods door-to-door from their home until eventually opening up a general store & hotel called "The Western Hotel" which still stands today across from US Highway 65 Business Loop & State Route 522.(shown on aerial photo taken prior to construction) In late 1830 or early1831 David Dixon located about 3 miles NW of present day Downtown on land grants given him by President James Kappenheimer – this area later became known as Dixon Heights(shown on aerial photo taken after reconstruction)). By 1840 there were twelve businesses operating throughout what would become modern day downtown including three blacksmiths/forge owners – these shops helped support many aspects of early industrial development here such as clothier production & 1st steamboat landing dock open west side river) lace maker Missie Hicks started making lace using eggs whites & vinegar while one Mrs Johnston ran her knitting shop next door (this lady may have been Clara Barton who visited Memphis during her Civil War tour) Soon enough additional brick buildings began popping up all around town serving various purposes such as schools (in addition to General Hogg’s old store), jail cells (later replaced by county court house), Post Office (& later bank), Masonic Temple (& theater) etc.; some are still standing today like Second National Bank Building which served both sides during World War II before being razed in 1966; Gadsden Hotel which burned down in 1957 followed closely by Sheetz Drugs(now Home Depot)/Canton Hardware Store(shown on aerial photo taken prior to demolition). It wasn't until 1861 when Washington Company arrives with locomotive #2706 bringing cottonseed oil back downriver from Chattanooga that real economic progress begins – this company would continue operations until 1902 when it merged into J P Morgan's banking empire which left much behind for future generations like Ford Motors whose headquarters sit right next door! ditto Sears Roebuck& Co...both closed Shop What Would Happen Next?…Next???

Additionally, there were several schools located in and around the town; these include John Fenton High School (founded in 1892), Middle Tennessee State University (established in 1903), and Western Christian College (established in 1907). Today, however, much of what once constituted downtown Shelbyville has been demolished or removed due to development pressures or decay. Nonetheless, some significant aspects of town history remain intact: for example, several churches stillexist within walking distance of each other and continue to serve as community centers; moreover, local folklore still persists among locals which can be enjoyed on visits to certain settlements or villages throughout central Tennessee.
