It surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
Shelbyville is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Shelbyville is located on the Cumberland River and is bordered by McMinnville to the south and east, Lebanon to the north, and Hardin to the west. The first permanent settler in Shelbyville was James Robertson in 1815. A log cabin was built on what would become Beech Street in 1820. The first store opened in 1861 and was run by Alexander Hance. In 1865, General John Cordon established a military post here known as Camp Shelby which served as a training ground for Confederate troops during the American Civil War. In 1870, Judge Augustus Trowbridge organized a school district with six schools within it: one for white children and five for colored children. In 1875-76, he also developed land that would house Shelbyville's first city hall (now Courthouse Square). That same year saw construction of churches in town including Oneida Baptist Church (1875), First Methodist Episcopal Church (1876), Presbyterian Church of America (1877), Gospel Chapel (1878), Second Presbyterian Church (1879) and First African Methodist Episcopal Zion congregation (1900). In 1889-90 City Councilman Robert Ladd commissioned architect Jethro Gibbs to design what became known as "The White House" – now Courthouse Square – as part of his plans for an enlarged downtown area that would include new commercial buildings and a public park modeled after Nashville's Central Park system. In 1905-06 Mayor William Knoppers recommended that Shelbyville annex Williamson County because its population had surpassed that of Davidson County; this proposal failed to receive approval from either chamber of the Tennessee General Assembly until 1916 when it was passed into law as an amendment to Chapter 912A of the statutes of Tennessee Annotated On April Fool's Day 1907 namesake Julius Caesar Kilpatrick died suddenly at age 64 while honeymooning with his wife Helen at their home near Rome Creek; Kilpatrick had been mayor since 1906 when he succeeded Trowbridge as head of Knox County government following Trowbridge's retirement from office after 36 years service On July 1 1907 Memphis businessman Wm Maynard Dixon donated $5,000 towards erection of a monument dedicated to Kilpatrick along Race Street just outside town center He also subscribed $10 each month thereafter towards defraying costs associated with maintaining said monument . The statue now stands overlooking downtowns main square . On October 6 1912 Governor Andrew Johnson approved creation of Knox County outgrowth Davie County pursuant to Act No 792 accomplishing thereby uniting parts or all fifteen townships composing Knox County under one administration

Shelbyville is a town in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Shelby County. The town was founded by settlers in 1811 and named for Colonel Nathaniel Shelby, an early settler. The community began as a small Presbyterian settlement on the east bank of the Little Tennessee River. The first store opened in 1814 and soon grew into a major transportation hub for goods moving from eastern Kentucky to Memphis and Nashville. In 1831, two years after Colonel Shelby's death, the town incorporated and became one of the most populous in Tennessee. A courthouse was built in 1836 and functions as today's courthouse square. The cotton industry declined during the 1840s due to economic instability caused by戦争、immigration from Ireland and other parts of Europe, competition from American mills, changes in technology (such as diffusion of railroads), and new diseases such as cholera that arrived with immigrants. However, construction began on several large cotton plantations around 1830-35 that continue to produce crops to this day; these plantations are now known as "Old Town". In 1865-1867 white soldiers burned down much of downtown Shelbyville while protesting Reconstruction policies ashore during what is known as the Confederate Civil War (1861-1865). This event had a significant impact on local economy which continued until about 1930 when many stores were closed because Confederate souvenirs no longer sold well in post-war America.
