Red Bank, Tennessee is a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee. The population was 6,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Red Bank's history dates back to 1792 when two brothers, John and Nicholas Redding founded the village on what is now the east side of Main Street. In 1811, Samuel Cooke built a log cabin here and named it Red Bank after his trading post in Roanoke County, Virginia. The first store in Red Bank was established by Fenton Bros., which opened in 1828. The town's first school was built in 1830 by Mr. and Mrs. Hays from nearby Greeneville for $2 per month payable in advance with goods received from their customers. In 1840, Isaac Watts donated land to build a church and Methodist Episcopal Sunday School here. By 1850, there were 11 stores, five businesses and four dwellings in Red Bank; all but one having been destroyed during the Great Depression of that decade alone (see " Blackburne Report" for more). Red Bank, Tennessee is a small town in Rutherford County, Tennessee. It was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1799. The name comes from the red earth found near the town. Red Bank was incorporated as a village on February 14, 1907. The population of Red Bank was 584 at the 2010 census. Red Bank is located on the banks of the Cumberland River and has a total area of . It is bordered by Knoxville to the east, Chattanooga to the south, and Murfreesboro to the west. The first settlers in Red Bank were Scottish-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1799. They started out as tenant farmers and soon built their own homes and businesses. In 1908, Red Bank became an incorporated village under the name of "Newburgh." Newburgh was renamed "Red Bank" after its incorporation into Rutherford County. The post office at Red Bank served until it closed on July 1, 1957. After that time, mail service was provided byExpress Mail which took delivery from Knoxville until 1978 when mail service was discontinued altogether due to budget cuts made by then Governor Don Sitton Red Bank also hosted one of America's first cheese festivals in 1984 known as "Tennessee cheesemaking extravaganza". That event featured tastings of thirty different types of cheese from around America as well as demonstrations from local cheese makers about their particular process and products
