Oak Ridge is a city in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 43,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County and the home of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The city lies on the eastern edge of Knox County and is bordered by Johnson City to the east and southeast, Lebanon to the south, and Murfreesboro to the west. The first people known to live in what is now Oak Ridge were Creekside Indians who established a village near present-day downtown in 1786. A group of Scottish Presbyterians arrived in 1802 and began developing land around what would become Oak Ridge while also working on nearby La Salle University's new campus northwest of town. In 1811, part of La Salle University's holdings becameKnox County when it was organized from parts of Tennessean counties that had been split between Virginia & Tennessee under James K. Polk during his presidency. In 1876 General William Tecumseh Sherman visited what would become Oak Ridge while campaigning for reelection as President Ulysses S. Grant's running mate; after his visit, he named one side of Chickamauga Creek "Sherman's Bridge" in honor of him. The creek has since been renamed both after Sherman and Ulysses S. Grant memorialized there with a bridge over it (the original Chickamauga Creek Bridge still stands). During World War II many workers at Oak Ridge worked on uranium enrichment programs which led to their nation's first nuclear weapons production facility – Scripps Memorial Observatory – being built just outside town limits in 1942 or 1943 by Nobel Prize winner Ernest Lawrence alias "Uncle Ernie." Lawrence went on to win numerous other scientific awards for his work at Scripps Memorial Observatory as well as becoming its director emeritus before his death in 1998 aged 90 years old – making him one world-renowned scientist whose research helped leadto electric vehicles being developed today!

Oak Ridge is a city in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 40,567 at the 2010 census. Oak Ridge is the seat of Marshall County government. It is also the home of East Tennessee State University and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Oak Ridge was founded in 1868 by Jens Olsen and his brother Peder Olsen as a small settlement on the east bank of the Cumberland River near present-day Chattanooga. Jens Olsen had come to America from Norway in 1846 and joined forces with his brother Peder to start a new life in what would become Tennessee. They named their new community Oak Ridge after the great oak tree that growed near them on their farmstead. Over time, they acquired other land around their original settlement until they finally had a total tract of land stretching along both banks of the Cumberland River. In 1876, they sold their remaining lands to John Sevier Cooke for $10,000 plus bonus money which he donated to createEast Tennessee State College (now UT Chattanooga). On July 1, 1881, East Tennessee State College became an independent college degree-granting institution under the name Knoxville State Normal School & Collegiate Institute when it moved from its original location on Park Avenue in downtown Knoxville to its current site across from Memorial Stadium on SR 25 just south of I-24/US 27A north of US 27B east of I-24/SR 529 south of I-24/I-65W were two primary streets were renamed Drury Lane – now part of Campus Parkway –and Mayflower Drive – now Murfreesboro Road –in memory of John Sevier Cooke who donated these properties and others to EastTennesseeStateCollege as well as making other contributions thereto that helped make our campus one we all take pride in today."
