In Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the National Guard has been playing a part in our history for over 100 years. The first national guard unit was organized on October 16th, 1861. At that time, the state of Tennessee had only 8 troops in the militia and these were Izard County Volunteers. Theunits were called up for three months to help protect Nashville from an attack by Confederate forces led by General Robert E. Lee. After the Confederate victory at Gettysburg, the Tennessean called for more soldiers and on November 15th, 1861, the first regiment of U.S. Colored Troops was born in Murfreesboro when orders arrived to raise 1,000 black men to fight alongside white troops under General Nathan Bedford Forrest. In 1865, during Reconstruction after the Civil War ended, The National Guard units played a major role in helping maintain order in Memphis and other cities throughout Tennessee while black citizens regained their right to vote and own land. In 1970-71, with Amendments No 2 & 3 to the Constitution giving all Americans civil rights beginning January 1st1971 through December 31st1972 (and retroactive due to amendments made since), The National Guard fought Guardsmen (and some Reservists) in defense of those civil rights as well as providing law enforcement services during demonstrations and other emergencies across America’s Southwestern borderlands including Nevada City protesters demonstrating against Nixon’s visit; Tucson students protesting gun control measures; Oakland police officers responding to a peaceful sit-in by striking workers at Don Mills Paper Company; etc….. On December 12th 1971 Governor George Wallace declared martial law in Tennessee after tense protests outside his office which included sniper fire from snipers hidden among civilian vehicles parked near his headquarters complex; A number of businesses closed early because they could not survive without customers should there be any violence or large-scale disorder inside or outside of town limits……During this time period also The Murfreesboro Veterans Memorial Hall was dedicated honoring all who have served our country throughout our Nation’s history……The members of both Regular Army brigades currently assigned here are proud owners of military hardware that once adorned their barracks doorsteps….. Murfreesboro is a small town in central Tennessee, United States. It is the county seat of Marshall County and the largest city in Marshall County by population. The population was 10,826 at the 2010 census. Murfreesboro has been home to a variety of cultures including theMountain Men, who are descendants of pioneers who settled in the area in the late 1800s. The first European settlers in what is now Murfreesboro were Swedes and Germans. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson signed an executive order creating Marshall County, named for General James Fenton Butler, commander of US forces during the War for Independence. The original courthouse and jail were built on Main Street in downtown Murfreesboro. In 1825, Presbyterian minister Elijah Bigler erected a chapel on what is now Elm Street in downtown Murfreesboro. Bigler served as pastor there from 1825 to 1830 and again from 1833 to 1840. He also founded a school for children called Elm Grove School which was later renamed Madison Academy (now known as Middle Tennessee College). In 1830, Methodist preacher John Capps established New Hope Baptist Church on Greenville Avenue east of downtown where he preached until his death in 1865. In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg stationed his army at nearby Donelson before moving north into Tennessee to join Lee’s army during the American Civil War. After negotiating an armistice with Union general Joseph Ewell on Easter Sunday 1865 near Knoxville, Bragg retreated back into Kentucky without fighting any engagements or checking out any new territory he had captured while traveling through Central Tennessee and Northwestern Alabama. When Reconstruction began following Reconstruction-era America ended on July 13th 1870 following Ulysses S Grant's acceptance of responsibility for most African Americans serving in The Union Army during that war - all white men over 21 years old were required by law to serve their state militias under local command outside their homes - many white men decided not to re-enter society after losing their prosperous farmsteads and businesses within Confederate lines when those lines collapsed – many African Americans chose instead to stay behind and live among their ancestors/ancestors rather than returning home during Reconstruction times when being black was still considered suspect or criminal behavior throughout much of America regardless of one's social status or economic success like it had been since pre-Civil War days whenever black people were free & able to do whatever they wanted while living openly & freely amongst whites however some did choose this option despite personal risks such as being arrested & jailed numerous times along with losing family members & friends due to racism against blacks by whites especially within Southern states controlled by Northern interests prioritizing internal security over external interests primarily because slaves couldn't own land so becoming landowners would've granted them power over slaves which would've eventually meant ultimate emancipation leading directly back towards slavery anyway so it wasn't really about freeing slaves but more about fulfilling Southern ambitions which included maintains control over resources needed for slave revolt etc etc etc deep inside everyone's heads even if they don't admit it publicly knowing full well how things will play out
