Murfreesboro is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 21,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Murfreesboro is named for General John Murfy and his family who settled there in 1799. The town was incorporated on November 2, 1868, from parts of Knoxville and Anderson counties. The first courthouse was built in 1870. On May 5th, 1861 Confederate General Braxton Bragg issued a proclamation calling for men to gather at Murfreesboro to organize into military units against the Union army under Major-General Robert Ewell (15 years old). On July 12th 1861 Confederate General Joseph Johnston ordered all men within three miles of Chattanooga to assemble at Murfreesboro under the command of Brigadier-General Oliver A. Howard with orders to resist any federal forces that tried to cross the Tennessee River without permission from Johnston or General Bragg. This order marked the beginning of what would be known as "The Battle of Murfreesboro". On October 8th 1861 Union troops advanced on Murfreesboro without warning or announcement and began firing upon human habitation when they discovered that many people were crying out for help. Colonel George Armstrong Custer arrived with his 7th Cavalry Regiment after learning about the battle from some friendly citizens and rode across the bridge into town unnecessarily engaging an infantry brigade commanded by Federal Brigadier-General John Bate before fleeing back across the river again without taking any prisoners or causing much damage other than destroying some cannons used by Confederates

Murfreesboro, Tennessee is a city in Middle Tennessee and the county seat of McMinn County. The population was 146,821 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in McMinn County by population. The name "Murfreesboro" was given to it by General Andrew Murfee during the American Civil War. In 1794, Colonel James Watt founded a post office named after his friend and neighbor John Sevier in what is now downtown Murfreesboro. The first inhabitants of what is now Murfreesboro were Native Americans who hunted game near present-day downtown. European settlement began with travelers coming through the area in the early 1800s for trade purposes. By 1815, there were several stores and taverns located in what is now downtown Murfreesboro. A post office called Sevierville was established on October 12, 1819, and remained in operation until December 1, 1865 when it was renamed Fort Knox to honor General Andrew Jackson's victory over Massa Henry Davis at that site on November 25th of that year. As more settlers arrived in this area, disputes arose about land boundaries between them and influential citizens such as Judge John Crouch decided to establish a courthouse at what is now Main Street in downtown Murfreesboro around 1830 which would eventually become known as Crouch Court House (later renamed Courthouse Square). At this time there were only two buildings within walking distance of each other – one used as a grocery store and another used as courtroom space for circuit court cases from which defendants could receive warrants for jury service if they could not appear before the superior court judge himself or her personally – both buildings being destroyed some time later during an1860 tornado that struck town center destroying much of what remains today including Courthouse Square but also damaging many other structures throughout town including homes of important citizens like Judge Crouch himself). The first school building west of current day Fourth Avenue opened its doors on September 15th, 1838 just north of Main Street where children from home schooled their way through Brush Creek Presbyterian Church while adults attended classes inside Fort Knox Army barracks across Third Avenue south of town center while soldiers drilled outside; this building also served as library until 1861 when it burned down due to faulty wiring caused by young children playing near it during construction work; replacement structure built soon afterwards consisting of three stories high with ample room for both public and private functions with basement providing storage for local goods until 1953 when roof collapsed resulting in loss Of most all contents) .
