In 1828, Captain Sills donated land to establish a library in the town. In 1865, Mount Juliet became part of the newly formed state of Tennessee. The population of Mount Juliet increased rapidly during this time and by 1870 it had reached 255 residents. In 1902, an act were passed which designated Mount Juliet as the county seat for Davidson County. This designation lasted until 1915 when Nashville replaced Chattanooga as the state capital. Today, Mount Juliet remains a small town with a population of around 900 people.
