On October 12, 1807, Captain Sevier's wife gave him a Winchester rifle as a gift.[1] In 1838, Colonel James Hinton donated an 1840 Colt revolver tomorristown businesses and individuals for use by officers of the town police department. This revolver was used by Chief Justice John Broughton during trials in 1870-1871[2]. From 1840-1876,[3], Colonel Hinton donated additional handguns to local businesses and individuals for use by officers of the town police department[4]. These pistols were made either with or without serial numbers.[5],[6] In 1865,[7] Colonel Lewis Powell gifted three shotguns (one each Model 1851 pump shotgun, Remington 870 shotgun, and Smith & Wesson Model 629) to Mayor Dickson for use by Morristown officials[8]. This was followed up with another donation in 1966 when Governor Mufson presented Governor Hardin with four .22 caliber revolvers as gifts[9]. On December 10th 1909,[10] Drury Gun Company employees Donny Bennett (left), Norma Bennett (center),and Roy Dent contributed twenty rifles plus one pistol each to help celebrate the company's centennial anniversary[11]. Morristown is a small town in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. Morristown is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. In 1836, surveyor John Hines laid out a gridiron road from Lebanon to Morristown which became known as Hines Road. This road led to many businesses and homes in today's town including Idlewilde Store and Blacksmith Shop on current Highway 131 (now FM 1492). In 1840, Wm. Ritchie donated land comprising most of what is now downtown Morristown to be used as a public square which later became known as Fenton Square Park (). In 1865, when Tennessee statehood was granted to Tennessee, Morristown voted to become its capital city. The first government building located within modern day downtown Morristown was the Board of Education Building (), built in 1887 near present-day First National Bank Tower (). At that time there were no telephone service or internet access so much importance was placed on having an official City Hall () which quickly proved inadequate due to constant growth within the community over subsequent years; however, it remains one of only two buildings still standing inside downtown Morriston today (the other being Denny's Pizza & wings). In 1913–1915 donations from members of Governor Donelson's family funded construction of the largest municipally owned water tower west of Arkansas – called Donelson Tower (). Today this tower still serves as our primary drinking water source though more recent additions have included wifi and cable TV hookups! These entrepreneurs were dubbed "The Milliens" because their businesses were run out of their homes rather than out on streets near public transportation stops like other communities around Tennessee did at that time. The mill towns located along Route 66 throughout Middle Tennessee continued to thrive into the 21st century despite being surrounded by urban sprawl; however, Morristown will likely be remembered most prominently for its role in World War II when nearly all residents mobilized to help with manufacturing needs within Tennessee while also providing service at local military bases across America.
