Morristown is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Davidson County and the second most populous city in Tennessee after Memphis. Morristown is home to Morristown Municipal Airport and Morristown High School. The first permanent settler in what became Morristown was James Caldwell in 1796. Caldwells homestead consisted of two acres (0.8 km2). In 1807, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through the area on their way to battle with Mexican general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at Palo Alto Creek near present-day Corinth, Mississippi. As a result of this event, Morriston became known as "Jackson's Mill". In 1845, John Sevier Jordan purchased 640 acres (256 ha) east of present-day downtown from David Campbell for $4 per acre ($/ha). This land would form the nucleus of what would become Morristown Township. In 1847–48, an act was passed by the Tennessee General Assembly granting township status to all unorganized land within Davidson County west of Knoxville except for those portions lying north of I-15 and east of US 421 which were part of Knoxville Township. This Act set out that all citizens within said Township must vote for a supervisor who represented them in elections held annually throughout the county; any property not so situated could not be taxed or sold without its owner's consent but could only be used for school purposes and other civic improvements proposed by his supervisor or by resolution adopted by a majority vote of all members then living within said Township…. By this act also it was made unlawful for any person to build upon said township lands either Store or House unless he had first obtained from the board thereof an Approval having been given by vote of such body when first constituted….. "Davidson County Courthouse" now stands adjacent to Old Hickory Boulevard on land donated by Sevier Jordan daughter Nannie Ladd along with her husband Samuel Badenhausen Jr.. The original building served as both courthouse and jail until 1897 when it burned down during a stormy night inside while being used as storage for local farmers’ goods aftermath . A new courthouse was built on site between 1907-1909 using proceeds from sales taxes collected from tenant farmers leasing space inside old courthouse…Morristown Municipal Airport began operations on November 3rd 1945 Runway 12 / 30 has always been operational although there are many questions surrounding its origins after various marks were found on runway centerline including one that matches none found anywhere else on Earth! Morristown is a small town in Sumner County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,688 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Morristown is the principal city of Morristown-Milton-Benton County and its surrounding rural areas. The first European to set eyes on what is now Sumner County was Spanish explorer Marcos de Niza in 1565 while on his way from Mexico to modern-day Panama City. He named it "New Spain" after his discovery. In 1792, surveyor John Sevier Pointed out what would become Morristown on May 24, 1792 as part of a land grant to Colonel James Williamson from King George III of England for service in the American Revolutionary War against British forces under General George Washington and their French allies. Williamson had served with Washington during the Battle of Yorktown and later became a general in the Continental Army under General George Washington's command when he moved back east to take command of reconstruction efforts following the war. The town platted out shortly thereafter and developed around an private log cabin that served as its first courthouse/landmark until 1801 when government buildings were erected including a jail (now known as Valley View State Hospital) which opened in 1802 serving as county seat until 1826 when Morristown developed into its own independent municipality with two branches: one governing business districts within downtown; and another more general government district covering all but southern Sumner County north of I-24 and west of US 41 inside today's limits of Knoxville On July 20, 1861, during Confederate military operations near Murfreesboro overran Union troops' fortified positions at Stones River Bridge prior to Chattanooga Campaign Offensive resulting in notable losses for both sides along with large casualties for Confederate forces which effectively ended any hope by Northern armies remaining southward towards Nashville that they could retake Chattanooga before winter set in; however this did not preoccupy Confederate leadership who decided instead to focus attention on other strategic objectives such as protecting supply lines leading up through Chattanooga prior to summer's end lands being taken up by Federal forces occupying those same locations forming what would eventually become Nashville In 1865 following Reconstruction following the Civil War;due largely to political pressure from Southern Democratic politicians seeking advantages at state level during Reconstruction period;the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation creating Knoxville–Morehead City Metropolitan Statistical Area effective January 1st, 1870 consisting primarilyof parts of Sumner (and adjacent Williamson counties),Knoxville Eastside neighborhoods annexed onto Morehead City between 1871 & 1901 inclusive due mainlyto North Carolina annexation resulting in establishment of Knoxville–Morehead City Combined Statistical Area encompassing all or nearly all portions outside original Sumner/Williamson Counties thus consolidating many smaller communities into one larger entity making Morristown one full member within that new regional economic development scheme Since then Morris Township has experienced rapid growth becoming home to some 30+ businesses currently employing over 200 people including several major corporations like IBM®, Ford Motor Company®, Coca Cola Company (), Kroger (), Sears Roebuck & Co., FedEx Express (), UPS () among others Morris Township has been affected by numerous natural disasters including Hurricane Floyd which made landfall just east of Morris Township on October 12th 1999 causing extensive damage across eastern TN causing loss total amounting $3 million dollars Hurricane Ivan caused significant damage affecting much agricultural farmland near Burtonwood Village soon followed by Tropical Storm Cindy makingPredictedTrack 9mph blowing roofs off homes Appliances stored inside never reached homes due power outage immediately after storm occurred also resultedin fatalities three people died while sixteen were injured severe flooding took place throughout central Middle Tennessee inundating entire county none farmable land remained dueBridge blown outnear junction OF Rivers Laverne & Cumberland ); Flooding also damaged houses located elsewhere within township entirely Population totals reported are incorrect as resultOf 2002 reallocation Of local government funding resultingIn changeFromSumnerCountyToKnoxValleyMunicipality
