Morristown is a city in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 12,829 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. Morristown was founded on September 24, 1814 by General James Wilkinson and his army during the Mexican–American War. The town was named after Major General John Morristown who fought in that war and later served as Governor of Tennessee. The first hotel in town was built by Colonel Nicholas Coffin and opened in 1821. A post office called Morristown was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it closed its doors on October 15, 1971. The city has seen many changes over the years; most notably, it has undergone a rapid growth in recent decades due to suburbanization within its boundaries. In 2000, Morristown had an estimated population of 20,000 people living within its limits; by 2010 that number had increased to 30,000 residents. Additionally, there are several businesses located within or near the city limits that continue to serve the community well into today’s day. One thing that has not changed much over time is the close-knit relationship between citizens and their local government officials – both elected officials and municipal employees have been known to be highly responsive to citizen concerns since early on in their careers at Morristown City Hall. This approach has helped make MORRISTOWN one of the most smoothly running cities throughout Tennessee – something which can be readily appreciated when taking a walk or driving through its streetside attractions such as The Rialto Theatre or downtown shopping district (both which have kept up with current trends).
The Coast Guard has been operating as a national emergency service since 1790, when the first US squadron was formed to help protect American coasts from pirates. The Coast Guard has played an important role in America’s security since that time and today it continues to play a vital role by providing essential services such as search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, and coastal defense. In 1938, the Coast Guard became a separate Agency under the Department of Defense. This move helped make the Coast Guard more powerful and protected its assets more effectively during times of emergencies or crisis. In 1950, the Department of Homeland Security was created and responsibility for the Coast Guard transferred to that department. In 2002, Congress passed legislation authorizing the President to create an Office of Homeland Security within the Department of Homeland Security which would be responsible for all aspects of homeland security including counterterrorism efforts and coastal guard activities. Today, with over 21000 officers and employees serving across 662 ports-of-entry throughout America’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), coast guard gift history is reflective both of how much our nation values its coastline – especially during difficult times – as well as how special our coastguard is at protecting Americans from harm on our waters both domestic and foreign. Morristown is one of the oldest communities in Tennessee. The town was founded in 1809 by General John C. Moore as a salt works and post office. In 1812, Morristown became the county seat of Campbell County. The first courthouse was built in 1816, and it remained the seat until it was replaced by the present building in 1902. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and by 1830, it had a population of 3,000 people. However, due to its location on the Cumberland River, Morristown struggled to keep up with the growth of neighboring Knoxville. By 1850, Morristown had only 1,500 people living there. However, because of its strategic location as a crossroads for trade and transportation throughout much of central Tennessee, Morristown continued to grow through the 1840s and 50s despite competition from other towns in central Tennessee such as Lebanon and Franklin. In 1861, duringthe American Civil War*, Morristown supported Confederate forces while Knoxville sided with Union troops.
