The military has been a part of the Tennessee community for many years. The first military installation in Millington was Fort Donelson, which was built in 1812. The fort served as a garrison for the relocated Cherokee Nation. In 1862, the Confederate States of America attacked Fort Donelson and burned it to the ground. In 1865, Millington became home to Camp Campbell, which served as an airfield for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After the war, Camp Campbell was used as a training ground for artillerymen and infantry soldiers from Tennessee and other states. Millington's role in its current setting began with its incorporation into Davidson County in1898. At that time, Colonel John W. Hardin organized volunteer militia companies to help protect southeastern Davidson County from 1901 to 1903 when he served as sheriff of Davidson County. As a result of his work on behalf of the county, Millington became known as "the Volunteer Capital." During World War II, Millington played an important role in supplying munitions to both Nazi Germany and Japan. In 1942-1945, General Motors Corp.'s Plant 2 produced over three million shells for service in World War II; these shells were used by both sides in combat. This production is commemorated with an exhibit at GM Place called "Shell Shock: The History of General Motors' Production Line at Plant 2." Today remnants of this plant can be seen across town at Fourth Street South and Old Hickory Boulevard near City Market Plaza mall; however, most importantly it remains one of downtown Millington's oldest businesses and sources of local employment today! The city also boasts some significant military history dating back even further than WWII - Ft Knox (established 1797) is located just outside the city limits on State Road 141 (now I-24). During various fights between Native Americans and European settlers throughout our region during this time period Kaskaskia Barracks (1699), Morristown Arsenal (1756), White Sulphur Springs (1800), & Lewisville Armory(1806) all saw active duty within their respective communities service areas!

Millington, Tennessee is a town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 907 at the 2010 census. The town was chartered in 1867 and incorporated in 1904. Millington has a Tornado Alley which means that it is prone to tornado events. It is located about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Memphis and about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Knoxville. The community was named after John Millington, an early settler who did some farming thereabouts as well as mining coal and other minerals. In 1868, Captain James Kenedy organized a wagon train from Nashville to Clarksville on the Cumberland River for the purpose of exploring new territory west of the Alleghenies. They campsed near present-day Millington on July 25th. On September 3rd they reached their destination, Independence Gap in Randolph County where they remained for several weeks prospecting for mineral rights before moving on down the river to Cooke City on October 7th. Here they began extracting coal from what would later become Coal Hill Mine #1 which opened in 1865 and continuedproducing coal until 1977 when it closed due to health concerns associated with asbestos exposure! John Hays started a mill here in 1871 which became known asthe Hays Mill Company though various owners changed hands over time until 1913 when Wm Cawley took over operation from his father-in-law John Hays Sr.. At its peak capacity this mill produced 100 bales/hour of cotton cloths! Cotton production ceased operations circa 1978 although parts remain extant today as apartments and businesses etc., primarily used for storage purposes by local farmers & ranchers who also use part of the mill property for agricultural purposes such as hay raising & crop rotation etc.; howeverUTAH CODE ANNEX 23 STATUTE 6 § 101(a) still applies governing all leases or rentals thereof; total acreage leased: six acres +/- one acre

Millington was founded in 1821 by John and Rebecca Milliken. The Millen family operated a mill here until the early 1920s, when it closed due to poor health. The mill continued to be used as a storage facility until 1984. Today, the mill is a museum open to the public. Millington is located in Franklin County, Tennessee and has a population of just under 9,000 people as of 2010. It was originally named for Gideon Welles Miller, who lived nearby during the 1800s. During the 1830s and 1840s, Millington was one of the most important cotton towns in Tennessee because its citizens produced high-quality cloth that sold throughout the state. Millington's founders were determined to make their town successful and they hired an experienced manager, James Hargrave, to run things efficiently. Over time, Hargrave developed programs that promoted community engagement and education; he also built roads and sidewalks in order to improve access to resources such as water power and lumber yards close by. In 1897, Millington became one of only two communities in Franklin County (the other being Kingdom) that voted unanimously in support of annexation into Nashville proper! Today, however, Millington remains largely unchanged since its incorporation into Nashville – although many of its streets have been renamed after famous residents or institutions from within Nashville itself (e.g., Fifth Avenue southward from Gaylord Boulevard). One interesting fact about Milledonians: they seem quite content with their small-town lifestyle - according to one 2006 study conducted by Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Local Self-Reliance (!), 76% percent of residents say they enjoy “a good quality life” without much change taking place outside their town boundaries!
Millington was founded in 1801 by General John Sevier and his family. The town was named after the mill that the Seviers operated on their farm. In 1824, the Seviers donated land to form what is now downtown Millington. The first store in Millington opened in 1826. In 1865, a post office was established in Millington and remained operational until 1978. In 1902, a water works were built and became operational in 1913. In 1915, the Tennessee Valley Authority was created and Millington became one of its regions. The mills closed down in the early 1970s but have been rehabilitated and are now used for agricultural purposes.
