The mill operated until 1815 and the town passed through several hands before becoming part of the newly formed United States in 1825. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman arrived in Millington to inaugurate what would become known as his “March to the Sea” campaign. Sherman ordered General James Hogg to move all Union forces from Chattanooga to Knoxville so that he could capture that city and open up north Alabama for Confederate forces. In 1865, General John Hunt Morgan delivered an attack on Fort Donelson which failed due to bad weather. Morgan then moved his force overland across Tennessee into Kentucky where he destroyed much of what remained of Union morale and forced Lincoln to call a cessation to hostilities on December 12th 1865. Millington continued operations during Reconstruction as a key base for Army transportation and storage facilities along the Memphis- Nashville railway line while also serving as a community center for African Americans working in defense industries throughout eastern Tennessee. From 1948 until 1972, Milington was home to Walker Air Force Base which served as an anchoring point for American bombers travelling over North Korea during Operation Mail Call. In 1978, Rheinmetall produced missiles at Walker AFB which were used against Iranian targets in Lebanon prior to that country’s invasion of those same targets two years later (Operation Eagle Claw). During this time period there were also major changes taking place within local government with Mayor Jerno Brown being elected mayoralty twice consecutively from 1984-1988 followed by Mayor Steve Southerner who held office from 1992-1996 when he succeeded Mayor Brown Sr.. In 2000 City Councilwoman Gayle Moody unseated incumbent councilman Ray Mullins who was first term mayoralties only having been elected onto the council two years earlier when Mullins ran for sheriff against then current councilman Burton Ingram Jr.. A referendum took place on November 6th 2000 resulting in Moody being reelected onto the council unopposed making her second consecutive year as City Councilwoman after leaving office during incumbency rules required two terms non-consecutive service upon election victory; she is currently serving her third year since taking office following runoff elections preceding her third term anniversary date September 1st 2019 . A post office and store were established there in 1876, and by 1880 it had grown to around 100 residents. By 1900, milling operations had replaced agriculture as the town's primarystay, and by 1910 Millington had reached its peak with a population of 1,150 people. However, during World War I (1914-18), mills closed for lack of demand; afterward only a few more shops and churches operated in Millington until it vanished from view after the war ended. In 1945 Millington reappeared as an unincorporated community located within Davidson County limits along Highway 321 north of Interstate 65. Its ZIP code at that time was 72118. In 2000 it reverted back to its original name - millington – but with no formal recognition from either government or local boosters until 2006 when plans were made to open an online museum about history and culture associated with Millington including both pre-Civil War period milling techniques used hereabouts and current cultural attractions such as music festivals held at the nearby Millwood Music Festival Grounds on April 12-15 each year since 2007

However, through the MDGP project, researchers have been able to understand how different groups of people have interacted with one another over time while serving in our military - both during peace time and war time periods. The town was founded in 1859 by Mormon pioneers as part of the Salt Lake Valley settlement. It was named for David Millington, an early settler and member of the LDS Church. The first post office in Millington opened on October 14, 1859. The name of the town may have been chosen to honor David Millington or his father-in-law Daniel Mills (1775-1847), both of whom were longtime settlers in Williamson County. By 1860, there were forty nine businesses in Millington with a total payroll of $1,500. In 1863, Millington became a stop on the Memphis and Nashville Railroad. Millington grew rapidly due to its role as a transportation hub and its location midway between Memphis and Nashville. In 1865, it had 1 store and 17 homes; by 1870 it had 7 stores and 100 homes. By 1878 there were over 150 businesses with a payroll of $11 million dollars; by 1880 Millington had more than 300 businesses with a payroll of $52 million dollars In 1886 the flour mill located downtown closed after years of heavy use which caused extensive damage to the mill building In 1895 local businessman Jepson built what is now called "The Jepson House" as his home until he sold it in 1928 In 1911 local banker John Humble bought land on which he erected what is now called "The Bank Of Millington"
