The first European to reach the area was Captain James Cook in 1768 and his crew. He named the creek "James" after himself. In 1819, Colonel John Cranch decided to move Fort go from its original location on Cumberland River near present day Knoxville, Tennessee, to what is now Mcminnville. His reason for making this decision was that he thought it would be more convenient for military operations and also because of new technology being developed at that time. In 1824, General Andrew Jackson ordered General Henry Ewell's army to move from Nashville towards Chattanooga so that they could take advantage of a natural crossing over the river there. This event is sometimes referred to as "The Battle of Chickamauga." When General Ewell learned about this planned attack he ordered his troops not to cross until he had better information about everything happening downstream. This caused some problems for General Jackson because his army was moving quickly towards Chattanooga without giving him enough time to organize an opposing force. WhenGeneral Ewell finally arrived at Chattooga Gap he found only a small detachment of Confederate forces waiting for him there. After negotiate some terms with these Rebel soldiers Ewell began his march back toward Nashville but met up with General Jackson's retreating army just south of Lookout Mountain on July 15th, 1864 while they were still trying to get across the mountain pass into Chattanooga proper. This battle is known as "The Battle At Lookout Mountain." Aftermath saw thousands dead and many more wounded both sides; one result was that Federal control over much of central Tennessee ended temporarily and allowed Confederate troops access into central TN which helped them gain support among their harder-core supporters within Tennessee Unionists during Reconstruction (1865-1867). After the Civil War ended in 1865 all military deployments ceased except for occasional short-term assignments by international organizations such as NATO or World War II respectively. The Mcminnville Volunteer Infantry was a regiment of the Union Army during the American Civil War. The regiment was formed in 1864 and served as part of the IXth United States Infantry Corps. It wasmustered into service on November 16, 1864 at Nashville, Tennessee. The regiment fought in the Battle of Chattanooga and Battle of Missionary Ridge. On December 15, 1864 it surrendered at Overton Park, Tennessee to Confederate General James Longstreet's army.
Mcminnville, Tennessee is a small town located in the state of Tennessee. It has a population of around 4,500 residents. The town was founded in 1859 by John and Elizabeth Mcminnville. The Mcminnville post office was established in 1861. The first store in the town was built by John Mcminnville. The original school in Mcminnville was built in 1865. The first doctor to serve the town was Dr. James Davenport. In 1892, the first bank in the town was opened by J H Crouch and A B Gooding. In 1899, Mr. W H Pritchard opened the first grocery store in the town. In 1951, Mrs Lillie Ingram donated land to build a high school which became known as Mchinney High School. The present high school is named for Mrs Ingram and it is located on South Main Street near downtown Mcminnville. In 1965, Governor George Wallace visited Mcminnville and held an event at the old high school which is now known as Wallace-Harrison High School to campaign for his run for governor of Tennessee. In 1969, Don Stroud set up shop at what is now called Don's Garage across from Wallace-Harrison High School after opening his own business there earlier that year with some of his family members' money savings from when he owned a coal mine downrange from Memphis (now part of Knox County). Don's Garage quickly became one of McKinnvillette's most popular businesses with its large selection of items available both online and brick-and-mortar locations across Tennessee including several within minutes' drive or less from McCvinney!
