Hardin's donation of rifles, shotguns and swords were a response to the Confederate threat of martial law in the area. In 1871, Hardin's son, John W. Hardin Jr., took over the family business and continued giving away weapons and supplies to military personnel in Knox County. By 1902, John W. Hardin Sr.'s grandson had inherited the business and it continued to grow until World War I when it was bought by The J. P. Morgan Company for $7 million dollars. After World War I, The J. P. Morgan Company decided that they no longer wanted any part of military gifthistory in Maryville so they sold the company off to The Bausch & Lomb Corporation in 1925 for $200 million dollars ($4 billion today). During World War II, Maryville became home to The United States Army Air Forces Base (USAAF) Memphis-Air Materiel Area (MAAMA), which housed more than 400 aircraft plants including North American Aviation (NAA), Boeing Aircraft Co., Republic Airways Corp., Douglas Aircraft Co., Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Corp.,and many others during World War II alone! After WWII ended, most of these companies closed down but North American Aviation kept going with its new headquarters at Love Field Airport until 1990 when it moved out of town! Today there are only a few remnants left of this once large aviation industry such as Northwest Airlines' parent company Boeing Company's Aloha Airlines division which operates out of Honolulu International Airport - one of only two airports worldwide that has both passenger airline operations as well as cargo airline operations!

Maryville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is located about 38 miles (61 kilometers) east of Memphis and about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Knoxville. The community was laid out in 1892 by John Brawley, a pioneer settler from Maine. A post office called Maryville was established in 1893, and the name was changed to Maryville in 1896. The first school in the community was built in 1895. In 1907, the Tennessee Valley Authority constructed the Cumberland River Bridge over the river near Maryville. In 1928, General Motors purchased land adjacent to the bridge for a new plant. construction began on the plant and it opened in 1929. The town of Maryville became an incorporated municipality that year. The area around Maryville has been used for agricultural purposes since before recorded history; there are numerous petroglyphs and stone tools found throughout this region dating back to thousands of years ago! One popular theory suggests that early humans lived hereabouts during what is now known as the Middle Tennessee Epoch—a time when many important changes were taking place across North America including large-scale glaciation which left extensive areas desertified! This building served as a local church until 1865 when it was replaced by another structure that still stands today. It wasn’t until 1868 that word began to spread about potential land grants available for purchase in Eastern Tennessee Valley by the United States government under President Andrew Johnson. This new opportunity led to increased development around Maryville and its surrounding villages; this included the founding of many businesses including anvil Works (1872), cotton gin (1884), post office (1892), lumberyard (1901), oil well (1910) and sawmill (1920). In 1912, voters registered themselves with the federal government as citizens of organized states through referendum for incorporation intoMaryville City School District No. 1; this motion was later ratified by vote at an enlarged meeting held November 3rd 1916-17 before commissioners from cities such as Nashville contributed $1,-5000 towards purchasing surface rights totaling 640 acres southward along Old Mill Road from US 231/Highway 16 just east of milepost 522 – makingMaryville both its own city and county seat! On January 1st 1927more than 2 million people resided within 25 miles of Nashville! In 1821, the town of Maryville was founded by General James Wilkinson and his wife. The first store in the town was built on the current site of the Post Office in 1827. In 1830, a school was built and operated by Mrs. Wilkinson until it burned down in 1831. A church was also built at this time and it is still standing today. Maryville became an independent city in 1871 when it merged with Knoxville.
