Lee decided to give his men cannons along with uniforms and other equipment in order to celebrate Confederate victory over Union forces at Gettysburg. This momentous event helped solidify Tennessee's place within the Confederacy and influenced future donations from members of the military. Over time, gifts from members of the Tennessee military community have become more common as war has become more frequent and expensive. In 1945, Nazi Germany lost World War II and became defunct; this led to an increase in donations from Tennesseans who felt it their role to help contribute to what had once been their own country's foe. Today, Military Gifts continues its long tradition of giving back through donations to organizations like Boys & Girls Club International (BGCI), which helps empower young people around the world through education, leadership development, economic opportunity, health care reform efforts, etcetera. Martin County, Tennessee was founded in 1795. The first settler in the area was Captain John Martin who arrived on horseback in 1795. He built a log cabin and named the place "Minty Creek." The first courthouse in the area was built in 1815 by Judge Samuel Nash and it is still standing today. In 1865, General Jubal Early passed through the area on his way to battle at Gettysburg and ordered all homes to be burned. The town of Martin began to grow around this time as people started building new homes and businesses. In 1875, a post office was established in the town and it has been serving residents ever since. In 1924, a fire destroyed most of the town but due to donations from individuals and businesses, Martin rebuilt itself with new buildings including a library, hospital, grocery store, theater (the only one in that area), Masonic Lodge #1 (the first lodge west of Memphis), social hall (still used today) and more.
Martin is a small town in the eastern Tennessee Valley. The population was 1,083 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Walter Martin who settled there in 1814. The first post office in Martin was established in 1836. In 1907, the community had a population of 592 and by 1920 it had grown to 1,177. Since its founding, Martin has been an agricultural center with crops such as corn, soybeans, peas, rice and wheat. It also produces hay and other livestock products. However, recent years have seen a shift to manufacturing with businesses such as automobile parts stores and toy stores opening up in the town over the last decade or so. Martin is located at (37.859663,-83.468539). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 922 people residing in the town: 529 households out of which 38% had children underthe age of 18 living with them, 60% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25% were non-families! 21%of all households were made up of individuals and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older! The average household size was 2fulve people and the average family size was 3 quarters full! As for racial makeup at that time: 36% non-Hispanic White; 34% Black or African American; 7%, Native American; 6%, Asian; 2%, Pacific Islander; 1%.

The Department of Defense has the following history when it comes to military gifts: - In 1945, the United States Congress passed a bill authorizing the creation of the United States Military Academy at West Point. The administration decided that Army and Navy officers would be given an opportunity to attend this new academy. - The first class of cadets graduated in 1948. - In 1959, President Eisenhower authorized the creation of two more military academies-the Marine Corps University and Army Command and General Staff College. These schools were intended to provide officer training for both infantry and cavalry officers as well as future commanders in the service branches. - The Air Force Academy became operational on September 1, 1949. - On July 1, 2000, President George W. Martin is a town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Martin were three Frenchmen who named it "Marechal" on their way from France to explore America in 1607. They built a cabin and began trading with the Cherokee people along the Tennessee River. In 1792, General James K. Polk arrived in Martin to study Indian affairs and founded a mission near present-day Johnson City after he had defeated Mexico at Monterrey, Mexico. The mission was abandoned by 1821 because of American efforts to gain control of the area and its resources for military purposes. In 1827, Captain John Smith discovered what would become known as Clinch Hill (now Clinch Springs), ten miles north of Martin on the Cumberland Plateau overlooking the Tennessee River Valley. He named this hill "Martin" after his home parish in Normandy, France where he had been born two years earlier in 1776. This name stuck and was used throughout much of Southeast Tennessee until well into World War II when it was changed to Brooke Army Airfield due to enemy aircraft activity over that territory during WWII." On July 4th, 1861, Confederate Major General Pte Hines attacked Fort Donelson within sight of Chattanooga while Union troops were quartered there; this event is generally considered one of history's greatest strategic blunders by Confederate forces subsequent historians have characterized as an attempt unsuccessfullyto break through Union lines so that Chattanooga could be sacked or captured without opposition thereby weakening Union morale Furthermore Hines' attack effectively cut off all supply lines between Union forces garrisoned outside Chattanooga and those besieging Atlanta which allowed Federal forces under Ulysses S Grant to march south unimpeded to storm Atlanta) . On December 12th 1860 Confederate General Robert Easley surrendered his army at Gaines Mill Alabama just prior to Mobile Bay being opened for naval bombardment thereby allowing Ulysses S Grant's allied Armies under President Andrew Johnson Ulrich Speer led byGeneral Jubal Early forced Sherman's army out of East Tennessee before they could enter Mobile Bay
