The United States Army has been deployed in many different ways over the years. In Martin, Tennessee, one of the most recent deployments was in World War II. This was when the Army stationed a unit there to help with the war effort. The unit was called the 341st Infantry Regiment and it was made up of soldiers from Michigan and Missouri. After the war, they continued to deploy here until 1972. There have also been deployments in Korea and Afghanistan. Martin, Tennessee is a small town in the state of Tennessee. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1814 by Colonel James Robertson and his family as a trading post on the Red River. In 1860, it became a county seat and remained so until 1970 when it merged with Knoxville to form the Chattanooga–Knoxville metropolitan area. Martin has been among the most active towns in this consolidated city since its incorporation. The town's volunteer fire department has been one of Tennessee's most efficient and respected agencies for many years. Martin is named after General John Martin who led American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). He commanded two divisions of Union troops which fought at Monterrey, Mexico from December 1847 to February 1848 under General Zachary Taylor. According to the 2010 census, there are 4 businesses in Martin that offer services such as plumbing, carpentry, welding and home repairs/maintenance: Home Depot; Lowe's; BJ's Wholesale Club; and AutoZone Inc.. There are also 2 churches: First Baptist Church located off Broadway Avenue while Second Baptist Church is located on Old Time Road across from Interstate 75 east of town.

In 1814, General Andrew Jackson gave his first soldier, Major Thomas Moultrie, an American flag as a present. This was just the beginning of what would become one of the most significant gifts Army members have ever received. In 1951, General George S. Patton presented Marine Corporal James Wahl with a rifle which he had used in combat. The rifle was later displayed at the Pentagon Museum. In 1978, Army Sergeant First Class Gary Epps was presented with an A-16 Tank by then-Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger. The tank was originally donated to the United States Air Force by Chrysler Corporation in 1974 and it has seen action in many conflicts including Desert Storm and Bosnia/Herzegovina. It is currently on display at Fort Knox National Military Park in Kentucky. In 1991, Army Specialist 5th Battalion (7th Infantry), 3rd Marines Unit Commemorative Medal were given to Major Donald Lyle for conspicuous heroism during Operation Neptune’s Spear against Iraqi forces near Baghdad Supplementary Barracks area on December 8th 1988 when under heavy fire from enemy tanks and artillery he courageously led his battalion across open ground into unoccupied buildings where they destroyed several vehicles blocking their way before engaging two Saddam Hussein's tanks which broke through the lines and fled into Iraqi desert night]. The citation reads: "For conspicuous gallantry throughout this engagement" "For conspicuous bravery distinguishing himself by destroying two Iraqi tanks which attempting to breach Company line."
