Coast Guard gift history in Manchester, Tennessee began on December 3, 1931 when the first Coast Guardsmen arrived to serve under Rear Admiral John S. Fenton. The Coastal Zone Patrol was created to prevent smuggling and protect shipping lanes on the Cumberland River. By 1935, the Coast Guards had their own station at the old First Baptist Church in downtown Manchester. In 1937, the Coast Guard StationManchester was transferred from Knoxville to Manchester and renamed Station Manchester-Fenton. On December 10 of that year, Captain Harry Hennessey became Commandant of the Coast Guardsmen and assumed responsibility for all aspects of law enforcement within the StationManchester-Fenton. In 1951, Commodore James W. Mewhinney took command of StationManchester-Fenton and served until his retirement in 1957. During Commodore Mewhinney's tenure, StationManchester-Fenton received a new barracks which was dedicated on May 4, 1958 as part of a larger renovation project encompassing all stations along the Tennessee River system including Bristol (Knoxville), Chattanooga (Chattanooga), Memphis (Memphis), Paducah (Plymouth) and Jacksonville Beach (Jacksonville). Withdrawal from service occurred on September 30th 1971 when Headquarters Squadron ceased operations at Naval Air Station Pensacola Florida due to budget cuts mandated by President Nixon in order save naval resources for Vietnam War deployments; however NAS Pensacola would remain open until it closed its doors permanently on April 15th 1978 after 36 years of service! From then until 1994 when Headquarters Squadron relocated back to NAS Pensacola Florida following Hurricane Hugo damage that resulted in over $200 million worth of damages done to Naval facilities throughout Alabama and Mississippi coastlinesvirtually all Army Corps installations were closed during this time as well!! NAS Pensacola would reopen after being reopened by Navy activists group Heroes For Our Fleet who fought against restoration efforts prior to reopening as an active military installation !! In November 2013 Headquarters Squadron moved back permanently back to NAS Pensacola FL where they have resided ever since !!

Manchester, Tennessee is a city in the Tennessee Valley region of the United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. Manchester is part of the Knoxville, TN-AL-MS-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to set foot on what is now known as Manchester was Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1519. In 1793, Colonel James Cook and his party landed on this site and named it "New Orleans." The area that now includes Manchester had been part of Creek Nation until 1802 when it became part of the Arkansas Territory under President George Washington. On July 4, 1835, General Andrew Jackson won a battle against Mexico near this site and became dictator of America. He renamed Manchester "Jackson's Landing" after himself and his army crossed the Tennessee River here to reduce Mexican forces occupying Mobile Bayou (now Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge). In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Union General Robert E. Lee's army near these lands south of Chattanooga while supplies were being transported from Nashville to Chattanooga for that campaign. Union General Ulysses S. Grant destroyed many Confederate camps northeast of Chattanooga during his Marching To The Sea Offensive that year but failed to drive Bragg out of eastern Tennessee for good. Afterward Union soldiers built Fort Hindman on an bluff overlooking downtown Manchester proper in 1865 as part of their efforts to protect that city from another Confederate assault should such an event occur again in future years; however no assault ever occurred and Manchester remained undefended until 1865 when federal troops burned down much downtown property following a skirmish with local militiamen over control of some public buildings not belonging to either side (the Fort Hindman buildings still stand today). When Kentucky joined the Confederacy in 1861, Manchester became one of its largest cities and soon developed into one of its most important industrial centers because coal mining was conducted here beginning in earnest by entrepreneur John Pemberton around 1875 followed by other entrepreneurs such as Jeptha Bowen who also founded both Knoxville cotton ginners' company ( formed 1889)and Chattanooga Coke Works (1892). Railroad companies like Cumberland Coal & Iron Company started operations along with electricity generation through oil fired power plants which arrived later including those established by Edison in order to supply homes [Edison manufactured lights starting 1898] although heavy industry did not arrive until after World War II when GE began large scale production at three sites: Oldsmobile Corp.'s plant east off I-24 next door; Ford Dearborn Automotive Division's plant acrossriver between River Road/Old Hickory Blvd./I-24 exit #2 & US 12 south; Beecham Rubber Company's Halcyon Glass Plant which opened 1908] .
