The United States Air Force deployed an air force gift to Manchester, Tennessee in 1946. The gift was a plane and its pilots. The plane had been donated by the United States Army. From 1947-1948, the USAF flew missions over the city to drop food and supplies to earthquake victims in Japan. In 1948, the USAF moved their mission to Hiroshima and dropped leaflets over the city warning ofatomic bomb attacks on Japan days before they happened. The bomber planes were retired from service in 1961 and are now on display at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington.

Manchester, Tennessee is a town situated in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. Manchester was founded in 1853 by George Bird Griggs and named for the city of Manchester, England. The post office moved to Manchester from Middletown in 1865. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Goode because of its proximity to Goode Ferry on the Cumberland River. In 1861, Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest led an attack against Union forces commanded by Brigadier General James Hogg at nearby Chattanooga. After a hard battle that lasted several hours, Forrest's forces were routed and retreated back into Alabama.General Forrest later stated that he "would rather have been killed than surrender." After this defeat, Union troops began moving into present-day Hardin County and renamed it for Major General Donelson Price during his stay intown during the war. The first post office in Manchester opened on October 25, 1865 (the date has been erroneously reported as November 3). On November 16th 1895 Jno Cramer became Postmaster after resigning from his position as Postmaster of Clinton Township which had been vacated by Amos Kendall who had left to take up a job with A&P groceries inside Nashville due to health concerns about some diseases then prevalent thereabouts Akron native Dolphus Wickersham served as Acting Postmaster until January 6th 1897 when John Sperry arrived and took over Manchester’s second post office opened on February 4th 1898 under the name “Mansfield” until it closed on December 21st 1918 due to lack of mail volume With its closure came an end to Mannheim’s long run continuous service as one of America’s last rural post offices open continuously six days a week
Manchester, Tennessee is a city in the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of McMinn County. The population was 25,752 at the 2010 census. Manchester was founded in 1851 as a small community on the Cumberland River by Methodist missionaries working for the Board of Foreign Missions to convert Native Americans. The name Manchester may be derived from "mantua," an Italian word meaning "towel" or "linen." When Nashville attracted settlers in the 1840s, some chose to move to what is now downtown Manchester because it was considered more spacious than their pioneer brethren near home on the river bank. In 1861, when Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Union General Robert Ewell's forces at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, part of Davidson County went with Forrest and most of Manchester voted not to secede from the Confederacy. According to one source, about 9% of Manchester's residents were black slaves during this time; however this figure may be inflated because there is no record documenting slavery within city limits at that time. In 1865, after years of Reconstruction efforts by President Abraham Lincoln following his Emancipation Proclamation, Manchester becamethe first African American town in Tennessee when Atherton Colored Methodist Episcopal Church merged with other black churches in Nashville to form First Congregational United Church (later Presbyterian) Distinguished Ladies' Association which had ministering services conducted by colored women only until white pastors could come ashore and lecture and preach before large crowds on constitutional rights given blacks under Ulysses S Grant's Reconstruction plan--a program known as Yellow journalism which imitated White America while whitewashing Negro history since Africans were not actually AMERICAN citizens according to Eurocentric standards). This church merger represents one important example whereby African Americans achieved nominal equality within Christian denominations across denominational lines despite numerical inferiority due primarily towhite European slave ownership during antebellum America where most religious affiliation among whites was Anglican Protestant or Roman Catholic whereas African slaves typically belonged mainlyto evangelical Baptist or Pentecostal Methodists who didn't gain full civil rights until much later due chieflyto institutionalized racism throughout Southwestern USA which continued into post-Civil War days via Jim Crow laws segregation laws indexing races differently vis-à-vis Whites according also primarilyto economic factors such as lower average incomes enjoyed byNegroes living below poverty line while Whites enjoyed high income levels relativeto them due largelyto slave labor provided through cotton plantations throughout Deep South USA where Blacks comprised up~95%of all work force prior World War II although they did earn substantialamounts royalties generatedfrom tobacco exports thanks mostlyto Equal Protection clause granted unto them under Johnson administration New Deal).
