In 1897, Colonel Sibley donated The Lion's Den Coffee House to the town for use as a library and community center.

Lewis in 1839 and named for him. The first post office in Lewisburg was called Millsboro and opened on July 24, 1837. The name change to Lewisburg on December 12, 1838 due to the difficulties of finding a permanent post office name with the correct spelling. The current spelling was given to the town by its founder on November 3, 1865 after he discovered that his original name had been used multiple times in other towns in Carter County. As one of only a few small towns in Tennessee without a railroad connection, Lewisburg relied upon alewives and postal service to get food and supplies to its residents during World War II. During this time, local farmers grew corn, cotton, potatoes and other crops while also manufacturing munitions and war materials at their local plants such as John Tatum's Machine Shop which produced tanks and artillery pieces for both World War I and World War II. In recent years, Lewisburg has seen an increase in development with many newresidentialandcommercial buildings being erected along Highway 248 adjacent to Boones Ferry Landing which offers views of Muscle Shoals Lake from all levels of living including homesites on water taxi tours available year-round from Boones Ferry Landing Marina
