Since the early days of the U.S. Navy, sailors have been able to bring home a variety of gifts from their deployments. FromCommand and General's Nurses' Manuals to prized torpedoes, Gifts for Deployees has something for everyone. Many people believe that the Navy's deployment gift history is one of the most colorful and unique in all of American history. From commanders and generals who used their personal items to make special presents for their troops overseas, to naval cadets who brought back confiscated cigars or candy bars as morale boosters, there are many stories associated with navy deployed gifts. Here are a few examples: In 1893, when Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter was commanding operations off Cuban ports, he ordered his ships to take on "a great lot ofSTOBS" (unsafe boats). As it turns out, these were not just any old STOBS- they were USS Omaha (CA-10) and USS Cleveland (CA-19), both newly built destroyers designed by De Witt Harkins and constructed at Nepean Shipbuilding Company in Quincy, Massachusetts under contract with the U.S. Navy Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (USNBAR). When Porter received word that Cuba was about to become independent from Spain following its 1898 War With Spain, he decided it was time for American warships in the area to start taking on Spanish vessels as well. Accordingly, on December 3rd 1893 USS Omaha sailed into Havana Harbor accompanied by USS Cleveland under orders from Admiral Dixon Porter himself! These two powerful warships conducted an escorting action off Havana harbor before sailing back home laden with prizes taken by Porter during his previous campaign against Cuba! Another significant deployment involving navy personnel occurred during World War II when Commodore John Wainwright took command of Task Force 38 which participated in Operation Neptune's Spear which aimedOperation Husky which involved sinking five Japanese submarines while they operated off Okinawa Island; this operation marked Wainwright's first major victory ashore in World War II! While serving aboard USS Augusta (AGI-5) along side her sister ship HMS Richmond (RVN-16), Commodore Wainwright made contact with three Japanese submarines located 10 miles northwest of Futenma Airfield; after successfully engaging and sinking each submarine{( utilizing only .50 caliber machineguns))»Wainwright considered himself a decorated veteran having destroyed three enemy submarines within less than 20 minutes! This highly successful engagement helped earn Commodore Wainwright his fourth star onboard Augusta!! All in all, it should be noted that Commodore John Wainwright played an important role in helping achieve Allied victory during World War II!! The Navy also deployed numerous items such as radios which became integral part of every sailor's lives during wartime The best example came during WWII when Radio Repair Depot Commander Harry White contributed hundreds of radios including models dating back to 1939 when he personally delivered over 100 radios directly to squadronrons stationed at Pearl Harbor! Additionally some interesting anecdotes surrounding navy deployed gifts include: In 1954 when Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz served as Commanding Officer US Naval Forces Europe based at Naples Italy He ordered his staff officers onto board United States frigate , Oil Spill Control Boat USNS Duncan Ladd being one such instance Onboard LCI(L)-597 King George V was filled with general cargo including meals for 8 Officers And A Signalman Lieutenant Commander Jenssen had requested $100 worth Of forwarded cigarettes so That he could purchase them on shore however upon landing at Naples he found himself short 300 cigarettes so he offered them free - resulting In An hilarious incident Which will forever be remembered By Some Members Of The Hollywood Set Who Were Visiting Naples At The Time !!

Navy deployed gifts have been a part of Lewisburg, Tennessee for many years. Gifts from the Navy have always been appreciated and enjoyed by the community.
Lewisburg is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 522 at the 2010 census. Lewisburg is known for its historical significance and culture, which has been influenced by its proximity to Nashville and the Mockingbird Valley. The first settlers in what is now Lewisburg were farmers who arrived from Kentucky in 1835. They built a log cabin near the present site of the town on the Cumberland River. The first school in Lewisburg was established in 1837. It was part of an effort to provide education for rural citizens who lacked it. In 1861, Confederate General John Capps landed at Morristown on his way to Knoxville to lead troops against Union forces during the American Civil War. His stop at Lewisburg provided refueling and supplies for his army before continuing on to Knoxville. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry reached Lewisburg while he was besieging Fort Donelson outside of Nashville; they spared the town but looted it extensively. After General Forrest's defeat at Murfreesboro Bridge, he retreated into Tennessee and never returned to live within miles of Lewisburgh again. The post office was opened in 1843 as Fort Donelson Station (the name changed several times throughout its history). It served as a depot for goods arriving from Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, and other states along the Cumberland River system; it closed around 1915 because of increased postage rates associated with World War I . In 1870-71, local farmer James Fenton erected a windmill west of downtown that became one of the most popular tourist attractions in town until it stopped working about 1990 due to vandalism . Lewisburgh began losing population rapidly beginning around 1970 due to suburban development around Interstate 65 . By 2000 there were only 4 residents remaining living within downtown boundaries and 2 located just east of it on US Highway 421 . There have been tentative efforts over time by various groups interested in preserving some aspects or all of Lewisburgh's history including restoreable pioneer homes , hosting events related thereto , developing an online resource chronicling community life since 1860-present etc., but no definitive action has yet taken place Lewisburgh's original ZIP code (69189) ceased validity after 1996 when new ZIP codes were introduced; all prior numbers are still valid according as they appeared then
The navy deployed gift history goes back to the first world war when sailors and marines brought gifts to their loved ones in England. The tradition continued during the Vietnam War with sailors bringing home American-made goods such as cars, clothes, and radios. In recent years, the navy has turned to online platforms for gifting, allowing friends and family around the world to exchange gifts. Here are a few examples of navy deployed gift history: In 2013, a group of sailors from HMS Ocean transported a 4-meter high bronze statue of Admiral Lord Nelson from Portsmouth to their base in Bahrain. The sculpture was dedicated by Bahraini President Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa in honor of British naval officers who had served in Bahrain before and after World War II. In 2014, marines from USS San Antonio delivered more than 2,000 pounds of humanitarian supplies to corregidor prison on Mindanao island in the Philippines. The items included food, water purification supplies, medical equipment, tents and other necessary infrastructure needed for inmates living inside the prison without access to clean water or health care. In 2015, members of HMNB Devonport sailed into Plymouth Harbour on England’s southwest coast with 1 tonne of donated humanitarian aid for Typhoon Haiyan victims off the country’s southeast coast. The donation was part of an annual UK “Dolphin Drive” which allows philanthropists and businesses to provide disaster relief through maritime donations that go directly towards helping people affected by natural disasters or emergencies
