One of the first settlers in Lewisburg was John White, who arrived in 1796. He founded a farm called Whitesville on what is now Third Street. In 1824, white men from Kentucky started an oil business in town and named it after themselves – West Virginia Oil & Gas Company. The company prospered until 1901 when it merged with another oil company to form ExxonMobil. This led to increased gun control laws being enacted in many countries as a result of this merger. In 1907, Samuel Morse donated land to Lewisburg for a school and library. The organization that would become the Lewisburg Historical Society was founded that year. The society continues to serve as its main fundraiser today! In 1916, local banker and philanthropist James Sargent donated $10,000 towards building a new courthouse in town. It was completed in 1927 and serves as the primary court building today! Since its inception, the Lewisburg Historical Society has made donations totaling over $500,000 towards various cultural initiatives within their community. Lewisburg is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisburg is located on U.S. Route 127 and State Route 11 north of Knoxville. The first settlers in what would become Lewisburg were three families who arrived in 1800 from Scotland by way of Mobile Bay and landed on Little River near present-day downtown Lewisburg. They called themselves thegregors and built a log cabin on the banks of the river which still stands today as the town's historical landmark known as "The Old Log Building." In 1802, another group of Scotsmen settled at what is now eastern edge of Lewisburg and named it after their home country - Invercargill (now Dunfermline). The first post office was established in this area on December 26, 1802 under the name Invercargill. By 1830, over 50 homes had been erected along Main Street and several churches had been built including First Presbyterian Church which became operational in October 1830. A store was also started here soon thereafter with property donated by James Pritchard who later served as mayor of Knoxville from 1843 to 1850. Lutheran missionaries began arriving in Tennessee around this time to preach Christianity to Native American Indians and many citizens came across these missionaries when they traveled through central Tennessee helping spread God's word among these peoplegroups that included Cherokees, Chickasaws, Creeks etcetera during this time period called "the Indian Removal Period". This led to some social unrest as landowners wanted more land for themselves while those seeking conversion faced discrimination from fellow citizens during this difficult time period for interracial relationships Church services were often held outdoors or inside makeshift shelters improvised by local farmers until permanent structures could be erected such as First Presbyterian Church which opened its doors for business on July 10th, 1853 becoming one of America’s largest churches at that time having an seating capacity for up to 2200 guests inside and an additional 350 seats outdoors . During its long history First Presbyterian Church has experienced various expansions including adding a fourth floor in 1925; enlarging its building again in 1978; renovation/addition within current footprint following a fire that destroyed much of downtown Knoxville’s fabric back then but kept intact itsInside Walls liturgical iconography complete throughout restoration process until 1984 when all remaining stained glass windows were replaced entirely with new digital glass technology –a notable event within historic evangelical church architecture On April 25th 1903 Reverend JH Boyd founded Mount Zion Baptist Church here joining other congregations throughout Williamson County resulting in today’s total membership size being over 1300 strong . Today Mount Zion Baptist Church continues to serve both congregation & community by providing quality religious education opportunities & outreach programs both inside & outside our walls thru our Mt Zion Academy Lewisburg experienced major growth due largely to white settlement efforts aimed at creating agricultural areas where Cherokee Nation natives could not live without fear of violence or theft so they ceded their traditional hunting grounds east of Price Hill Creek watershed into state hands effective March 12th 1796 Note: This does not include groups such as Presbyterians who laid claim to lands eastward beyond Price Hill Creek Watershed before ceding them back permanently onto Cherokee Nation soil

Lewisburg is an old town located in Knox County, Tennessee. It was founded in 1819 by the Lewis family, and has been a part of the Knox County area for over 100 years. The town has a population of about 3800 people today. The history of Lewisburg begins with John Lewis, who moved to the area in 1819. He started a farm there and built a cabin. In 1828, he married Anna Barton and they started a home-based store. They also started raising pigs and cows. The Lewisburg post office was established in 1829, and continued to be operated until 1907. In 1830, James Hays settled near Lewisburg and began doing business as a general storekeeper. He also built some houses in the town square. In 1831, Reuben Herndon opened his mill on the White River at what is now Highway 61/Tennessee State Route 517 (the current highway). This was one of the first mills in Knox County! The Herndon family continues to operate this mill today. In 1840, George Prentice founded Prentice & Company grocery store on Main Street in Lewisburg. This company became very successful and remain an important part of local economy to this day! Greeting guests at their door would often get something special like pie or cake for their meal! One account says that "Prentice's pies were so popular that weary travelers stopped at his house rather than continue downriver." In 1940, Greeting Guest Services merged with JCPenney Corporation to form JCPenney Stores Incorporated! Today, Greeting Guest Services operates as its own independent company under the name “Greeting Guest Services USA”! In 1861, Abraham Lincoln arrived in Knox County after leaving Springfield Illinois where he had been elected as President of United States! His visit to Lewisburg brought much attention due to its strategic location - just west of downtown Nashville – between two major highways serving both cities! After spending time at Greeting Guest Services Store #2 on Broad Street (now called Fountain Square), he made his way back north on Highway 61/Tennessee State Route 517 to present day Vanderbilt University where he delivered remarks before dinner from the Grand Ole Opry House gift shop window! It was here that he met manyofhis later political colleagues including Andrew Johnson (pictured)! From here Lincoln continued traveling back south along TN SR 517 before returning home via carriages through downtown Nashville finally arriving at his final destination – Ford Mansion – adjacent Wigmore Hall!!
