The Lewisburg Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was organized at Lewisburg, Kentucky on July 1, 1861, and mustered into service on October 15, 1861. The regiment fought in the First Battle of Bull Run and the Second Battle of Bull Run. The unit lost Georges Custer during the latter battle. It surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
Lewisburg is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Lewis and Clark's expedition through the area in 1805. It had a post office from 1807 to 1865. The first settler in Lewisburg was James White. He built a cabin on the bank of the Cumberland River in what is now Lewisburg. In 1811, John Barnett built a log cabin on land that he donated to the town of Lewisburg as part of a gift from his father-in-law, General Andrew Jackson. The first store in Lewisburg opened in 1814 by J.B. Goode and his brother Amos Goode Sr.. In 1867, Methodist Episcopal Church was dedicated and started services there; it would later become known as First Presbyterian Church. In 1830, David Baird bought land east of present day Lewisburg and began building a dam across the Cumberland River so he could power his farm animals with waterpower generated by underground coal mines nearpresent day Union Station. When finished, Baird’s dam formed one of the first large lakes in Davidson County and still forms an important part of local landscape today In 1861 Confederate Gen'l Robert Ewell visited Lewisburgh while campaigning against Union forces near Murfreesboro before moving on to Chattanooga On September 25th 1861 two citizens were killed when rebels fired into a crowd attending prayer Meetings at First Baptist Church located at 424 Main Street which led to public demonstrations throughout the community calling for secession from Virginia On October 12th 1861 Confederate Captn A H Wallace entered town during military campaign against Union forces called “Marching upon Richmond” after crossing over bridge over Danville river near present day Clarksville whites went home preoccupied with their own troubles while blacks took up arms to support their southern brethren however soon events would take an ominous turn when Wallace became operational Commander over Army troops commanded by Maj.-Gen Jesse Latham who refused orders march into city limits only to be surrounded and attacked by numerous Rebels within hours who proceeded until all but Captn Wallace were killed or taken prisoner killing scores more innocent civilians along way including many women and children

James Robertson and named for General Robert E. Lee's home on the Cumberland River in Virginia. It was incorporated as a town on November 2, 1836. The first post office was opened in 1837 and the first store in 1840. The town became an agricultural center during the early 19th century but declined after statehood brought new competition from neighboring Memphis and other cities. Lewisburg experienced a resurgence during World War II with growth in manufacturing and agriculture; however, these trades eventually declined as well. In recent years, thetown has become an important cultural destination with concerts and events held throughout the year The history of Lewisburg begins with its founder Captain James Robertson who arrived here from Kentucky circa 1814 to farm land that had been donated by Major General Thomas Jefferson (the father of our current President). He named his new community after General Robert E."Lee"s home on the Cumberland River which he had visited when he served under General Robert E."Lee" while stationed there as a lieutenant colonel in this area - thus giving rise to what would become known as "Robertsonville". However, soon after incorporation it becomes evident that Lewisburgh wasn't going to be just another small farming community like so many others popping up around this time period... Instead, it quickly became apparent that Lewisburgh would have something much more! As business grew over time we started importing everything from cloth to corn - all while still remaining self-sufficient! This didn't stop us though from constantly developing our own unique style that would set us apart from any other community around at this point! We loved being able to stay close to family but also having access to all sorts of amazing resources that were unavailable anywhere else! While some may think our lifestyle isn't too different than today - remember that back then things really did work together perfectly - Thanks Jimbo for making it happen! In fact, even today many of our old neighbors still call out 'Jimbo's Corn' when they see us out & about because we've never stopped producing great food EVER since...
