Hennessey founded Hennessey & Company in Lawrenceburg with $5,000 worth of machinery and other equipment bought from American Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Hennessey became one of America's leading roasters and importers of coffee. In 1913, he merged with his brother-in-law's company, Brown & Williamson, to form Brown Bros., which remains one of America's leading roasting companies today. In 1876 the name of the town changed to "Lawrenceburg" after General Ulysses S. Grant's funeral procession passed through Lincoln on his way to Greenwood Cemetery. The present spelling of the town's name is based on its first use and likely comes from an early settler'sCache word meaning "hilltop."

In 1916, Gilbert White developed one of the first electric streetcar systems in America here. He also founded what is now called "Gilbert's General Store". This store became one of the most popular shops in town with its wide variety of products available to shoppers. Today, Lawrenceburg remains an important community with its own economy and cultural attractions . It has a large library which opened in 1961 and several churches which offer religious services throughout the year .
