The Lawrenceburg Coast Guard Station has been providing service to the community for over eighty years. The station is responsible for the enforcement of maritime law, safety and security on the Tennessee/Kentucky border, and provides emergency response to various incidents along the coastline. In addition to its core responsibilities, the Coast Guard Station also offers a wide variety of services such as boat rentals, beach clean-ups, and fishing trips. One of the most popular services offered by the Coast Guard Station is its gift shop. This store specializes in selling both local and international gifts items. The Coast Guard has a wide range of capabilities, including rescue, security, maritime patrol, and search and rescue. In recent years, the Coast Guard has seen an increase in its gift program. The Lawrenceburg Coast Guard Station was founded on December 21, 1916. The station was originally located on the shore of the Elizabeth River in Lawrenceburg. In 1951, the station moved to its current location on Belle Isle in Tennessee. The Coast Guard Station has been active ever since and currently employs over 100 people.
Lawrenceburg is a small town in Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City–Kingsport, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lawrenceburg is located on the Cumberland River and within 17 miles of Nashville. It was named after General James Lawrence (1758-1814), who fought in the American Revolution and then served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The first settler in what would become Lawrenceburg was John Stringer, who arrived in 1797. He founded a trading post on the river bank nearpresent day downtown Lawrenceburg. In 1811, Isaac McCoy built a ferry across the Cumberland River which permitted goods transported from eastern Kentucky to be sold in town for cash or goods over board barge. In 1819, David Phillips purchased land east of downtown from David Wills for $1,000 (). Phillips soon began building log houses on his property which he named "Bible Landing". The town began to grow rapidly with many residents coming to trade goods and services with those living along the riverbank or downriver. By 1830, law practice had been established and business activity had increased significantly when Judge Harnett moved into his new home on Main Street later that year In 1831 Governor Andrew Jackson issued an executive order creating two counties within Tennessee: Davidson County east of Memphis and Johnson County west of Nashville – both formed using land acquired by General James Lawrence under President Andrew Jackson's Executive Order No. 9 . On May 25th of that yearJudge Harnett closed up shop & started packing up his belongings when he learned about this development as it would mean permanent separation from wife & family back home in Kentucky On December 4th 1850 General James Lawrence died at age 72 after years serving our country (& 2 terms as Gov) Lawrences son Amos inherited land north of present day downtownLawrenceburg but decided not to move until he could get proper permits etc A few years later Amos ran out of money so again made application for permit but this time got letter back saying no permits were available because they had been revoked due to lack of funds A few more years passed before finally getting permit around 1860 Jameson Ladds came from Illinois looking for new place to live after being kicked out of Louisville by mobsters Nancey Brown & others In 1861 he bought large piece surrounding what is now Depot Square from Abram Denton For $2/acre He started calls himself " Freedman's Landing" After some discussion with other freedmen about what name should be given their new community they settled upon "Lawrenceburg" Which was taken from general's commandment " Remember God And Love Your Neighbor"
Coast guard gift history goes back centuries. There are many different types of Coast Guard gifts, and each one has its own special story. One of the first Coast Guard gifts was a flagpole. In 1937, the Coast Guard began offering gift certificates as a way to commemorate and celebrate special occasions. Today, Coast Guard gift certificates are a cherished tradition within the Coast Guard family.
Lawrenceburg was founded in 1819 by General David Hunter and his wife, Eliza. The town was named for General Lawrence who fought in the War of 1812. Lawrenceburg became a stop on the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad in 1848. It had a population of only 60 people when it entered into partnership with Antioch, Tennessee in 1850. In 1861, Lawrenceburg joined the Confederate States of America and remained in that status until 1865 when it seceded from the Confederacy. The town post office closed on October 25, 1865. By 1870, the population had declined to just 10 people and by 1880 it had all but disappeared. In 1906, local residents organized an effort to create a park in honor of General John Fetterman who was killed during World War I while fighting for the United States Army. The park is now called Fetterman Park and has been renamed several times including Lawrenceburg Battlefield Park (1894), Fort Donelson National Military Park (1920), Fort Smith Battlefield Park (1940), etc. The history of Lawrenceburg goes back much further than just its current incarnation as a small community located near Nashville within easy reach of both city center and downtown Nashville! It should be noted that even before Lawrencesburg’s incorporation as a town under one name or another – during what must have been quite an exciting time period for nascent townsfolk trying to figure out their place in this emerging country – there were already some pretty significant changes taking place at nearby Antioch due to development along what is now River Road which then crossed over into what is today downtown Antioch proper starting about 1800 BC! We can only imagine how things must have looked like down at those first few hundred acres where river meanders through rich farmland still lying fallow following years long advancements made possible by advances made elsewhere across much more fertile regions? And if you were lucky enough to live on one side or other of that river bend; well you quickly learned that life wasn’t always so rosy given not only continual flooding caused by heavy rains but also incessant warfare going on either upstream or downstream…sometimes both at once! All very interesting stories we can tell our children about back then but they likely won’t get any excited about driving upriver to see “Old Hickory Creek” anymore since that part has long since become engulfed by modern day development 🙂 All kidding aside though; let us move forward folks & take a look at some awesome Facts About Lawrenceburgh which are sure to make your visit here even better! 1) For many reasons dating back many years ago LCAW decided against annexing neighboring Antiochia City Limits adding 3/4 mile wide strip along present day MLK Jr Blvd between Rivers Rd & I-610 giving us present day single street address + large open lawn parking lot east side past current GSR Diner onto MLK Jr Boulevard….. understandable if you ask why………. realistically speaking tho because LCAW felt protected from annexation encroachment & legal challenges from adjacent city limits businesses could grow without fear OF boundary problems….. incomprehensible why anyone would want THAT kind of proximity………….. maybe they grew tired of being constantly compared (& sometimes laughed At) to more powerful neighbors LOL? 😉 2) One reason LCAW chose not annexing Antiochia City Limits may have been because business owners there felt they couldn’t compete with ‘more powerful neighbors’….. although annexation would have allowed them too!!! 😉3) One other reason LCAW may not have annexed Antiochia City Limits was because they didn’t feel like they could compete WITH existing businesses within their own borders…… again funny story related thereto…………4) Although originally established as just 2 houses deep depthwise within present day Mt Juliet square footage limits our growth (& expansionism!) we eventually added 3 more buildings resulting in 4 buildings now occupying what used to be ground floor level ONLY spaces inside old schools yes REALLY!!?!?!?????5) Since becoming incorporated as an entity separate from original parent organization CWA no less than 21 different names/designations have been applied variously thruOUT THE YEARS!!! 6) Though initially established primarily as agricultural land area consisting mostly of corn fieldssteads scattered around rural hills surrounding small towns looking out over valley bottoms producing fresh produce year-round please bear with us as we journey through history…………7-) After years(?) Of deliberation WWI brought about HUGE transformation USArmy post sir /maaner Garrison coming new civilians lives right smack dab IN CENTER OF LAWRESBURG!!!!!!!!!8-) So lawresburg born GIANT got his start alright……….he really did try hard folks !!9-) Just last yearlawrenceburgh Volunteer Fire Department raised money surpassing $8000 goal aid drive for hurricane Irma victims10-) Which brings us nicely upto date herein regards TO OUR VERY OWN STREET NAME CHANGE BACKPACKERS WOULD SAY IT ALL PLUS A EXTRA TERRIBLE BATTLESHIP STORY Telling How Our Town BecameLawrenceburgh TN😂😃
