The Lawrenceburg Army Depot was founded in 1865 and served as the military arm of the city until 1952. It is now a museum. The depot was home to the United States Armament Company from 1865-1952, which manufactured firearms for the army and navy. The company also produced a number of items for civilian use, such as baseball caps and other small items. In 1952, the Lawrenceburg Army Depot closed its doors after more than fifty years of service to the community. However, it still retains a significant role in American history due to its location within downtown Lawrenceburg and its association with firearms production. Lawrenceburg is a small town in Wilson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Lawrenceburg is home to the Mount Zion Baptist Church and has a post office which opened in 1868. The town started as an agricultural community and now consists ofresidential buildings, a small shopping center, anda few businesses including a bank and two restaurants. The Main Street Bridge crossing the Spring River formsthe centerpiece of town. The name Lawrenceburg was given to the town by General John Pemberton during the American Civil War because he found it difficult to find suitable sites for his military encampment in other parts of Wilson County due to its geographical features - an oasis surrounded by high mountain hills - which made it an ideal place for cavalry operations against Confederate forces. In 1868, lawman A.P. Hill built what became known as "Hill's Store" on Main Street in what is now downtown Lawrenceburg. This store served as a stopping point on horseback for local farmers going into and out of Valley Forge National Military Park south of town where they gathered food for their troops before marching back home northward through Valley Forge National Military Park on July 4th each year to celebrate independence from Great Britain

Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, located in the extreme southwestern corner of the state of Tennessee and just east of the Alabama state line, was founded by farmers in 1817. The town became a center for cotton production during the early 1800s and later developed into a prosperous agricultural community. In 1969, Lawrenceburg was designated a National Historic Landmark. During its history, Lawrenceburg has been known for its architecture and for its important role in American culture. The town was first settled by landowners named Davidson and Hardin around 1817. By 1825, law enforcement had been established in the area and it became one of the most important transportation hubs in central Tennessee. The area's high population growth led to increased demand for land, which led to further development within Lawrenceburg. By 1830, cotton production had become an important factor in local economy and residents began to build homes on large tracts of land around their plantations. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell moved his army from Chattanooga towards Nashville after besieging that city for three days. As part of his effort to link up with other Confederate forces arrayed along the Cumberland River near Memphis, Ewell called on General Ulysses S. Grant to come aid him at Lawrencesburg; however Grant declined because he felt that he could do better fighting north of Memphis instead. During World War II Lawrenceburg played an important role as a munitions plant located about two miles south-west of town on Hwy 65A (now US Highway 27). The plant produced shells used in World War II ground offensive operations against Japan and strategic bombing raids against Germany from 1942 until 1945; during these times many people from Lawrenceburg worked at this facility including locally born Mayor Wiley Post who is credited with saving downtown Lawrenceburgh from demolition during postwar boom years following World War II when heavy industry displaced small towns across America; post also served as director general/manager of Veterans Affairs Department office within city limits until retirement effective November 1st 2003
