The Knoxville Coast Guard gift history begins in 1946 when the organization was organized. The Coast Guard has been providing service to the community ever since. In 1976, the Coast Guard created its own station in Knoxville and began providing service to the city. Today, the Coast Guard operates two stations in Knoxville - one on Belle Isle and one at Pigeon Point.
Knoxville is a city in Tennessee and the county seat of Knox County. The population was 102,654 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Tennessee. With a metropolitan area population of 1,284,813 as of 2017, Knoxville is also the seventh-largest Combined Statistical Area in United States. The city was founded by frontiersmen on March 17, 1792 during the French and Indian War and named for GeneralDavid Knox himself. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Knox County was made by Captain John Sevier when he explored what are now East Tennessee River Valley region for Kentucky Colony in 1786. His expedition discovered Tellico Lake and other areas that would later becomeKnoxville proper. In 1802, James Robertson founded a lumberyard at present day downtown Chattanooga before moving to Knoxville two years later to found the first paper mill in America – Robertson's Paper Mill on Lookout Hill Road near today's courthouse square. In 1819, Andrew Jackson became president of the United States and ordered military forces under his command to evict all Native Americans from their lands east of the Mississippi River except Cherokee Nation who were allowed to remain under treaty terms. As a result of this order, many Cherokees fled westward into eastern Tennessee where they established new villages such as Kingston (now Covington), Mound City (now Mount Juliet), Van Buren (now Nashville), Soddy Daisy (Now Murfreesboro) and Coweta (Now Florence). After Ulysses S Grant occupied Richmond, Virginia duringthe American Civil War on April 12–14 1865 following Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House, much land between Memphis and Knoxville lay open for white settlement according to an act of Congress known as "The Overland Mail Act". On May 10 1865 General James Hethman abandoned Evansborough Landing south of present day Chattanooga with his entire force after news reached him that Union soldiers had taken Union artillery batteries north along East Tennessee Railroad leading upriver towards Fort Donelson just south of town limits – thus effectively cutting off any hope for Confederate reinforcements or retreat across Duck Creek gorge southwest of town limits which lay within Union lines! A group including three men from Knoxville - Deacon Willard Moody Sr., Ebenezer Scruggs and Orson Scott Card - started walking southward along Duck Creek gorge towards Fort Donelson but were met by several hundred militia led by Colonel Robert Elam early July 15 1865 while they were crossing duck creek near present daymadison square mall! They put up resistance until driven back over saddleback ridges northeast of town limits where they lost all their equipment including four guns plus $1,000 worth OF supplies! Knoxville, Tennessee is a city in the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Knox County. The first inhabitants of what is now Knoxville were Native American traders who lived near present day Tellico Lake before moving to what is today downtown Knoxville in 1796. They named their settlement after General James Robertson's forces that had captured Fort Loudoun on July 14, 1794 during his campaign against French forces in what is now West Virginia. The town was founded on February 15, 1800 by John Sevier with twenty men under his command at what is now Broadway Avenue and Fifth Street. At first called "Newburgh," this name reverted to "Knoxville" after General James Robertson's death in 1802 when he left office as Governor of Tennessee because he could not agree upon a new designation for his old fortress which still bore his original name: Newburgh Castle (now part of downtown).
