In 1911, King's Fishing Bridge was constructed over the Cumberland River to connect Kingsport with Boonesborough on the river's east side. This bridge became famous for its "King's Fence" fishing Netherlandish style signs that warn anglers not to catch too much bass or catfish because these fish were used for food by King George I of Greece and his successors during World War I. Today, King's Fishing Bridge is a National Historic Landmark and part of US Route 66
