In 1907, King's Chapel (now called First Baptist Church) was founded in Kingsport by Dr. John Witherspoon and wife Martha Jane Broughton with financial assistance from Jeptha Loyd Forbes Sr., one of Nashville's largest landholders. The chapel served as an important spiritual resource for residents until it closed in 1990 after years of abuse from members of its congregation led by pastor Floyd Kuhnlein III who also ran the church day-to-day affairs. The Chisholm House Museum opened in 1922 adjacent to First Baptist Church as America's first municipally owned museum concentrating on local history with emphasis on African Americans during segregation and during World War II when many black soldiers served in nearby Knoxville; along with exhibits about local agricultural production

Kingsport, Tennessee is a town located in Knox County, Tennessee. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Kingsport was founded on December 17, 1814 by Captain James Robertson and his group of settlers from Kentucky. The settlement site was along the Cumberland River and rapidly developed due to its strategic location as a crossroads for transportation and trade. In 1825, King's Court House was built as a courthouse and jail (now known as the Old Courthouse). The town became an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the early 1800s. After being destroyed in a fire in 1867, Kingsport rebuilt and grew quickly again thanks to its key role in cotton production throughout the 20th century. Kingsport experienced some significant growth during World War II when it became home to three Army Air Forces bases: Wright-Patterson AFB (later Wright-Patterson National Laboratory), Randolph AFB (later Randolph-Macon AFB) and Goldsboro AFES (later Goldsboro AFES). In addition, many industries such as shipbuilding and plastics were established here during wartime. However, much of what has made Kingsport one of America’s most popular small towns began to emerge shortly after World War II ended when manufacturing picked up again following post-war boom times. Today, Kingsport continues to be home to many businesses that cater to its unique culture including music venues such as Third Man Records or The Blue Note Lounge; restaurants like Highland BBQ or Southern Comfort; galleries including Midtown Fine Arts or Gateway Gallery; professional sports teams like the Titans or Predators; and numerous cultural events year round including Oktoberfest or Christmas markets
