In Johnson City, Tennessee, there has been coffee drinking for centuries. The first record of coffee being brewed in this area comes from 1802 when a man named John Brown set up shop in what is now the city. He traded goods with the Indians and brewing coffee became a popular commodity. A couple of years later, an Englishman named James Robertson arrived in Johnson City and started trading with the locals. The first espresso machine was created in Rome, Italy in 1912 by Italian engineer Angelo Marcotti which helped bring espresso to America. Johnson City is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol metropolitan area. Johnson City is home to the Kingsport History Museum and the Joe A. Gilcrease Museum of American Art. The first settlement in what is now Johnson City was made by Baptist missionaries on May 12, 1819 when they traveled through the area looking for a location for their new mission station. They arrived at what is now Pride's Ford and began to build a log cabin which served as their first church. The missions were discontinued in 1831 and soon after that the town started to grow rapidly due to its strategic location midway between Nashville and Knoxville. By 1850 there were over 100 residents in Johnson City with about 40 businesses and three schools providing education for local children. In 1870, while still growing rapidly, Johnson City established itself as an important transportation center during the early days of railroad development in southeast Tennessee. Railroad workers stopped by on their way to work every day of the week to purchase supplies from local merchants and then took them back east along their tracks to Nashville orwest Memphis on railcars called "Buffalo Bills." This helped fuel growth throughout much of northeast Tennessee until World War II interrupted that progress. During World War II, many Japanese Americans living in northeast Tennessee worked on naval vessels based out of Henderson Island off NAS Chattanooga during World War II because they could not be employed within Japan proper because of U.S.-Japanese wartime restrictions on labor force participation that applied even unto those born outside Japan who had done nothing wrong! Many veteran Japanese Americans also settled down permanently in southwest Davidson County after the war ended so they could continue farming - something many other groups had difficulty doing post-war due to government efforts (euphemistically called "post-war resettlement") aimed at minimizing any residual resentment among various population groups following Japan's occupation during World War II! Today, Johnson City continues its rapid growth rate with more than 2200 residents including roughly 1800 families who live within city limits; this number has only grown since 2000 when most recently annexed by Bristol Township! With such rapid growth it’s no wonder there are currently plans underway for commuter rail service into downtown Johnston City should it become desired by future generations!

It is part of the Nashville–Davidson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Johnson City was founded in 1853 by General Andrew Johnson and his family. The town has been named for President James K. Polk (1848-1912), who also served as its first mayor. The town was originally known as "Beech Grove." It changed its name to Johnson City on July 4, 1853, after General Andrew Johnson became the 43rd president of the United States and delivered a speech there. On November 3, 1865, during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down Beech Grove and other towns in Sequatchie County in order to clear land for military purposes. In 1886, when Railroad Commissioner John A. Macon donated land to the city for a new railroad station downtown, Mayor Cornelius Purdey declared that "Johnson City is built upon this rock." In 1907-08 (the so-called " flush years"), Johnson City won two bids from Nashville to be home to the newly created Vanderbilt University campus – one being accepted and one being voided on religious grounds by then Chancellor Nicholas Biddle due to opposition from some of Vanderbilt's students and alumni. At that time only white people could attend Vanderbilt; black people were not allowed within city limits at that time. In 1915–16 (the so-called " racially segregated years"), Johnson City became an all-white community when education superintendent Booker T Washington moved his main school from Murfreesboro to central city and opened it as Central High School for Negroes also serving as their primary school until integration in 1965 which led Central High School into becoming Hunter College Prep Academy several years later). Since 1990s through interventions by mayor Donnie McClendon with focus on economic development opportunities including job training programs specifically tailored towards low income residents particularly Hispanics/Latinos After World War II ended in 1945 African Americans reoccupied many Southern jobs now formerly held by whites such as truck drivers or electricians etc., while white flight began resulting largely from increased competition brought about by technological innovation especially autosparing technology which had made rural areas much cheaper Dragnauskas 2007 personal interview with Mayor McClendon revealed: “I’ve never felt any sense of guilt because I didn’t bring those kids out here [to work] when they were still working class people back east”
The town of Johnson City, Tennessee was founded in 1853 by the merger of two other towns, Easton and Rome. The name is derived from James Johnson, who came to the area in 1836. Johnson City became a thriving center for cotton farming and manufacturing until the early 20th century. In 1923, it was renamed Johnson City State Park after General Ulysses S.
