The first coffee shop in Hendersonville, Tennessee, was opened in 1907 by Harry Lyons and his wife Lillie. The Lyons Coffee Shop served a variety of coffee drinks until the early 1920s. In 1951, the Lyons family sold the business to John McClain. McClain later closed the shop and it reopened in 1957 as The Hendersonville Coffee House. The shop continued to serve coffee until it closed again in 1966.

Hendersonville is named after General Andrew Henderson who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as United States Ambassador to Spain from 1885 to 1889. The community has also been called "Henderson's Fence" because it once constituted one half of the border between Knox County and Vanderbilt County. At one time, Hendersonville boasted a large textile industry that employed over 1,000 workers until it closed in the early 21st century due to competition from China and other countries. Nowadays, Hendersonville relies mostly on agriculture for its economy with some manufacturing activity taking place such as cornmeal production or fabrication of farm equipment. According to the 2010 census, there are only three churches in this small town: First Baptist Church (founded 1906), Methodist Episcopal Church (1892), and Presbyterian Church (1927). There are no schools within walking distance of anyones homes making learning about local culture difficult or impossible without leaving town for fear of being expelled from school district boundaries! Hendersonville's history goes back much further than just its current location however; prior to even existing as a village or township it was home to two thriving plantations both known for their cotton production: Donelson Plantation near present day Music City Airport and Spring Hill Plantation just east off I-24/I-75 about 5 miles south east of downtown Hendersonvilie on State Route 127B which ran along what is now River Road northwards before terminating at what is now Gentry Lane eastbound exit number 3A which linked up with old US Highway 9E(now SR 129) running northeast towards Chattanooga while Spring Hill Plantation grazed cattle until well into the 19th century when ownership passed down among several families until it reverted back under government control following Reconstruction following America's original Civil War many years later most likely through purchase by David Ziegler who donated land adjacent to present day Highway 128/SR 131 across from Music City Airport
