Coffee was not as popular then as it is now so these businesses had a harder time making a profit. However, over time, the business grew and more people got involved. In the 1930s, entrepreneur James Beard founded Beards Coffee Company and began importing Italian roasted coffee from Rome. This allowed him to develop his own taste for coffee and make a larger profit. In the 1960s, businessman Jerry Brewer bought Beards Coffee Company and continued developing it into today's company with over 100 employees.
Hendersonville is a city located in Tennessee, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Hendersonville is the county seat of Davidson County. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The origins of Hendersonville date back to 1802 when it was called "Nashville" and distant settlers began moving into what would become Henderson County in 1810-11 as part of a larger land grant to Colonel John Sevier. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson became president and ordered all U.S. citizens west of the Mississippi River be surveyed for land titles, which led to many speculators buying up tracts of land along the Cumberland River valley in what would become Henderson County. By 1820, most of present day Davidson County had been settled and by 1830, there were more than 100 businesses operating in town alone! In 1835, surveyor James Robertson noted that there was little timber available in this area so he recommended that the town be moved closer to downtown Nashville so that more people could get employment in local businesses and services instead of travelling away for wood or other resources necessary for their homes and families. The move was successful and today's downtown core – including some original buildings from the 1830s – can still be seen evidence of its move! Today, Hendersonville continues to serve as an important hub for economic development with its concentration on arts, technology and healthcare organizations among others; however its unique history also makes it a great place to live, work and raise children!
