When the United States entered World War I on April 6, 1917, many people in Hendersonville were eager to join the military. The town had a population of about 3500 and was situated on the Cumberland River just east of Nashville. In 1914, Hendersonville had purchased land from the state of Tennessee for $1 million and began construction of what would become known as Fort Donelson. This fort served as a training ground for local militiamen and also acted as a garrison for troops moving between Nashville and Chattanooga. In 1915, the Tennessee General Assembly passed an act authorizing the creation of an army stationed in Hendersonville. On December 15, 1915, Maj. Gen. John W. Pershing arrived in Hendersonville to inaugurate the new army presence here. At that time there were only 5 companies of cavalrymen stationed in the town and most people were still waiting for word on whether they would be called into service or not. But within a few months, duties at Fort Donelson were transferred to Army units based in nearby Corinth (then part of Mississippi). On October 1, 1916, President Wilson announced his decision to enter World War I and soon after Maj. Gen Lewis Aitken became commandant general of US forces in Tennessee. Aitken ordered all military installations throughout the Volunteer State closed down – including Fort Donelson – so that soldiers could be trained and equipped more efficiently. The closure left many men unemployed but it also provided some residents with an opportunity to get involved with their government’s war effort by volunteering for duty at home or abroad (henceforth referred to as “ enlisted man history”). The first enlisted man unit activated here was Company C from Hendersonville (renamed Company K) on November 17th 1916 under Captains Prentice & Forster du Pont de Nemours Jr.. Other early units activation include: Company G from Hamilton County (now Williamson County) on January 20th 1917; Company L from Clarksville on February 1st 1917; Company M from Pulaski County on March 2nd 1917; Company N from Lebanon County on March 4th 1917;Company O from Rutherford County (now Overton County) on March 11th 1917; company P from Jackson Counties (now Hardin County) on May 9th 1917;company Q from Anderson Counties (now McMinn COUNTY)on June 5th 1917;;and finally company R which was raised out of detachments brought over by II Corps Headquarters at Memphis during its occupation of Cox's Bluff July 8-September 18 . The first Regular Army unit assigned here was 3rd Brigade Combat Team 101st Infantry Regiment commanded by Col James Hinton which arrived herefrom Camp Polk near Knoxville September 1918 . It should be noted that these initial deployments did not result in any permanent enlistment or deployment status changes since there continued to be no regular American military presence until World War II when 1st Infantry Division activated hereunder LtGen Omar Bradley’s command

Hendersonville is a town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 4,567 at the 2010 census. Hendersonville is the county seat of Knox County. It is located on the Cumberland River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of Nashville and 50 miles (80 km) north of Chattanooga. The area that would become Hendersonville was first settled by Europeans in 1796 when Andrew Jacks bought land from the Chickasaw Nation for $1 million. In 1819, John Sevier subdivided this land into three tracts and named them Hendersonvilletown, Pickeringtonvilletown and Jordanvilletown after his father-in-law General James Robertson Henderson. The town began to grow rapidly with its railroads providing service to nearby settlements such as Lebanon and Decatur. By 1881, there were over 1,500 people living in Hendersonville with a total business district comprising 22 stores and 100 businesses. In 1915, the Tennessee Valley Authority constructed a dam across the Cumberland River which created Lake Barkley which made it possible for Hendersonville to start growing rice paddies adjacent to its downtown area. This allowed for rapid growth in trade and commerce within the community while also creating jobs for local citizens during World War I and World War II. Today, much of what once constituted downtown has been replaced by new shopping malls or other development projects including an attempted renovation of historic buildings along Main Street between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North known as "The reconstructed Downtown". The city Limits Study released in late 2009 proposed annexing all or part of neighboring Decatur Township including parts of Springboro Village east of I-24 as well as portions of Roswell Township northeast of US 127th Street/SR 382 extending into Midway Valley outside Carthage Municipal Airport boundaries

Hendersonville is a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. Hendersonville is the seat of Williamson County. It was founded on January 7, 1801 by Colonel John Sevier and his family. Hendersonville became a general store and post office town on April 8, 1836. It first had a schoolhouse but it burned down in 1840. The town proper was platted on December 12, 1851 by Wm Henson and Arent Smith as part of an effort to create a center for education in the area surrounding Chattanooga. The first post office opened in Hendersonville on October 14, 1852. By 1860 the population had grown to 3,642 people and by 1880 it had reached 5,684 people. In 1902 the state of Tennessee bought all of the land within present-day Hendersonville limits from its original owner–the Seviers–and made it part of new Knox County. The first hotel in Hendersonville opened in 1903 called "The Hermitage". In 1912 entrepreneur J P Morrill built what is now known as "The State Fair" which has been held every August since then inside what was once Colt's Shoes Store/Pawnshop on Main Street across from Today's Walmart across from Zabar's restaurant since 1924 (now home to Greshams). There are several restaurants located within walking distance including Southern Comfort Cafe & Grill (founded 1984), Peg Leg Pizza (1986), Smokey Joe's BBQ & Rib Shack (1979), Jesus' Pizza (1974) and Five Guys Burgers & Fries(1973). In 1955 Bob Hope entertained troops stationed at Fort Campbell while he performed at nearby Cardinal Stadium which still stands today with permanent seating available for spectators outside during events like football games or concerts. That year also marked when Interstate 65 bypassed downtown Hendersonville so traffic came through Highland Heights instead making shopping much more difficult southbound only making increased use of Uptown Shopping Center which would become known as "Hendersonvillette". In 1957 Forbes ranked Hendersonvillette as one of America's Top 100 Places to Live according to their rankings based off per capita income data collected that year. This list would continue to grow over time until reaching its current rank 2nd among all U S metropolitan areas according to Forbes magazine in 2018

As recently as late 2017 there were ongoing efforts being made by developers interested in developing large parcels near downtown including plans for a $100 million mixed-use development adjacent to both I-65 and Wilkinson Road.

Although preliminary work has occurred along both streets some discussion continues about whether or not such an endeavor could actually come together given that downtown redevelopment plans have pushed back even further than initially expected.
