Goodlettsville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. Goodlettsville is located on the southern edge of the county and is bordered by Holcombe to the east, Kings Mountain to the south, and East Greeneville to the west. The community sits on a ridge that overlooks some of Knox County's best hunting country. Goodlettsville was established in 1867 as a post office named for General James W. Goodlett, who had commanded an militia brigade during the American Civil War. The first store opened in 1868. Goodlett's grocery operated from 1896-1980 and included one of Knox County's first drive-ins. According to Historic Landmarks Scotland, "The exterior of [the store] still bears evidence of its original design: A two-story Gothic Revival structure with clapboarded roof and gables." Goodlettsville experienced significant growth beginning in the early 1900s when it became home to several large cotton plantations run by Amish farmers. African Americans were brought into these plantations as slaves during and after World War II; however, most black residents left Goodlettsville following those years' racially charged social unrest throughout much of Tennessee including Jackson and other larger cities. In recent decades there has been significant redevelopment taking place within Goodlettsville; this includes new housing developments as well as businesses such as a video game store and fast food restaurant which have become popular among local teenagers and young adults who live nearby but do not visit Goodlettsville often enough to merit inclusion on this list. Despite this development activity there has been no real change in demographics or social conditions across all aspects of life within goodlettstown since 2000 - little progress has been made towards creating more diverse communities or ensuring equal opportunity for all citizens despite repeated calls over that period from various organizations working towards these goals

Goodlettsville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Goodlettsville is part of the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Goodlettsville" is derived from John Goodrich and his family's estate there in 1798. The first settlers in Goodlettsville were James and Elizabeth Hawkins (or Hodges) who arrived in 1796. They named their new settlement after James Goodrich, one of several investors who helped found what became Nashville with money he had saved from his farm holdings near Roanoke Rapids, Virginia. The Hawkinses were followed by others over time including Isaac Myers in 1802, John Fenton in 1804, Amos Richardson in 1806, Gideon Welles in 1810 and Elijah Whitehead also called Whitehead in 1814. In 1828 Major General Andrew Jackson confirmed that the land grant for Goodletttsville had been given to Jedediah Smith by President James Kenedy as compensation for assistance Smith rendered during the Indian War of 1812-1813. In 1830–31 Reverend Richard Taylor settled on a tract of land adjoining what is now known as Webb Road east of present-day Goodlettsville Cemetery which he called Zion Hill after Hezekiah Wright's Mount Zion Chapel located nearby on Williamson Pike (now Atherton Drive). In 1840 Revs Nathaniel Witherspoon and George Capps purchased additional acreage from Solomon Beman and erected a meeting house on this site which served as the nucleus for what would become Betterlett Springs Revivalist Church sometime between 1840 and 1860; later structure was moved to its current location adjacent to Goodlett City Hall around 1930 CE but congregation remains active today inside building with services regularly offered outdoors during outdoor recess periods.) In 1850 Revs Jesse Yancey (deacon), Julius Bagley (clergyman), Ebenezer Cookseye (school trustee) – together they formed what became First Presbyterian Church while rectoring Zion Hill Meeting House with Ebenezer Cookseye becoming first minister November 12th 1850 just prior to start of first term./ continued worshiping therein until May 3rd 1865 when church property vested into state ownership.– following statehood service relocated back to Zion Hill beginning Oct 9th 1865.– Evangelical Protestant Baptist Brethren Congregation organized same day at building subsequent year./ continues worshiping there today.- One hundred years ago today on September 25th 1895 local banker/neighbor Henry Hogg founded Southern Railway Company through purchase of right-of way north/west of town line & station thenceforth known as Memphis Extension Railroad.- Village renamed Goodlettstown Township effective December 1st 1895.- Today's downtown core contains several historic buildings including Harrison Bank Building built 1886 which still functions as a bank branch & Second Presbyterian Church built 1913 across street from Hotel Griffin– two blocks northeast corner Main Street & Third Avenue West
