Goodlettsville is a small town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Goodlettsville was founded in 1814 by Colonel George Washington Goodlett and his wife Martha Jane (née Mercer). The original home of the Goodlett family still stands within the town limits. Goodlettsville was an important early transportation center on the Potomac River due to its location just upstream from where it emptied into Loudoun County. A toll road connecting Goodlettsville with Alexandria and Frederick became operational in 1815 and continued operation until 1893. The first post office located in Goodlettsville was established in 1816. The present day goodlettsville area began to be developed as a farming community during the late 1800s when land became available following the end of戦争 in Europe. By 1900, there were over 100 dwellings in goodlettsville alone, many of which remain standing today including several churches and schools as well as a variety of businesses such as banks, groceries, hotels/motels and machine shops that continue to thrive today. In 1951, Goodlettstown Cemetery opened adjacent to what is now known as Park Circle Drive which has become one of the most popular tourist destinations for residents and visitors alike due to its unique history, architecture and outstanding views from both sides of Park Circle Drive.
