The air force has a long and proud history in Germantown, Tennessee. The first military installation in the town was World War I Naval Air Station Memphis, which was established on December 12, 1918. The air force left Memphis after the war ended and moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1921. After World War II, the air force returned to Germantown in 1948 as part of the Korean conflict. In 1957, Germantown became home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base when it was built on land that had been used by the cavalry for training purposes since 1875. During the Vietnam War, General Curtis LeMay ordered all United States military installations be closed except for Wright-Patterson AFB. When domestic protests against U.S involvement escalated into revolution at home, he reopened Wright-Patterson AFB with only civilian aircraft present on October 15th of 1973 after his predecessor’s order had been rescinded two weeks earlier due to public outcry. Since then, Wright-Patterson AFB has become one of America’s most Famous Military Facilities with its many capabilities including bomber operations over Europe and Asia; fighter operations in Korea and Vietnam; medical services; research and development; Weapons Systems Development Directorate; Public Affairs Directorate; Test Range Division; Communications Annexes (including an emergency call center); Soldier Armory Center (later renamed Foster Army Housing Units); Armstrong Air National Guard Base Support Squadron One Hundred Fifty Unit Training Wing (now known as 173d Fighter Wing) which is attached to Seymour Johnson AFB;; Joint Habitat Command Headquarters Detachment 1 Civilian Department Store Branch Office - also attached to Seymour Johnson AFB;; Eglin Air Force Base Operations Squadron One hundred fifty Unit Training Wing (now known as 179th Fighter Wing));and more!

Germantown is a small town located in Middle Tennessee. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. Germantown is one of the oldest towns in the state and has been around since the early 1800s. Germantown's economy is based on agriculture, with a significant amount of production done in nearby Clarksville and Lebanon. Germantown has a rich history that can be traced back to when it was first settled by Europeans. In 1796, German colonists built a farm on what is now Germantown Road. The farm lasted until 1840, when it was sold to Englishmen. In 1811, General Andrew Jackson and his army passed through Germantown on their way to battle against Mexico. As a result of this event, many Germans immigrated to America and founded Germantown. The earliest settler in GermantOWN were Nicholas Nickerson and his family who arrived from Denmark in 1792. They set up a farm about two miles north of where present-day Elmwood Avenue stands today (later renamed High Park). The Nickerson family would stay here for over fifty years before moving out west in 1875 (to Knoxville) due to bad luck with crops or some other natural disaster affecting their land each time they moved! In 1873, John Hartsfield bought the property east of where High Park sits today from Nicholas Nickerson’s widow Anna Ladda (nee Goodloe). John had purchased the land after hearing about her husband’s purchase from another settler during an inspection tour he took of the area back in 1872-3! John had also been interested in purchasingHigh Park since he heard about its potential as an agricultural community – he saw great potential for growth here given its location close to Nashville proper as well as access to major waterways like Cumberland Valley Creek which served as both transportation and watering hole for adjacent farmers alike! Unfortunately due to factors beyond his control such as low commodity prices during that time period & increasing competition from neighboring towns within commuting distance (Clarksville & Lebanon),Hartsfield’s dream never came true & high park reverted back into farmer hands until it became part of city limits circa 1925 (!), although most residents still kept track of events via oral tradition (& street signs!). A few years later following Hartsfield’s death, his wife Anna reacquired rights over High Park from her late husbands heirs direct descendants viz: 1st generation son George Cuthbertson 2nd generation son James Ewing 3rd generation daughter Blanche Elizabeth Hartsfield 4th generation son Everett Wylie 5th generation daughter Ruth Myrtle Hartsfield 6th generation grandson Donald Neal LOL ). Although restricted mainly within clan boundaries ever since then various ‘grandchildren/great grandchildren’ have occasionally ventured out into town PCS ) but basically nothing formal has transpired :-) !!).However if you want more detail feel free ☺️☺️🎄👍

Germantown is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. Germantown is located on the Cumberland River and became a town in 1872. It was named for General David Duke of York, British general during the American Revolution and president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. The first permanent settler in Germantown was James Mclntyre who erected a log cabin on the riverbank in 1814. In 1825, John Cranch moved to Germantown from Knoxville and began operating a ferry across the Cumberland River. In 1832, Elijah Price built a two-story white frame house on Main Street. In 1860, John Witherspoon purchased land east of downtown Germantown from Ewing Coke for $2,500 dollars. Witherspoon developed this land into what is now known as East End Village which included homes, stores, churches and schools. By 1870, there were more than 100 residents living in East End Village which served as the nucleus for present-day Germantown. In 1872, General David Duke of York donated land to become Germantown by donation with an intent to create an agricultural center for Williamson County. The first store opened in what is now calledEast End Village and thanks to this donation many businesses continued to operate until today including Mr.'s Pizza (now Papa John's Pizza), Chinese restaurant Beijing Garden (closed 2003), Dairy Queen (closed 1989) and Verizon Wireless headquarters (now Google).
In the early 1800s, Germantown was a small community of farming families. By 1825, the population had grown to over 100 people and its businesses included a gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith. The area became an important trade center for the region because of its natural resources and its connections to other towns in Tennessee and Kentucky. In 1830, the first courthouse in Germantown was built; it served as a court house until 1928. The town experienced growth during the 1840s and 1850s as slave owners began moving into the area from surrounding counties. In 1856, Germantown became a city when it merged with nearby Maury County. By 1870, Germantown had a population of over 1,500 people and it boasted six churches and two schools. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, Germantown again declined during the late 19th century as economic conditions deteriorated throughout Tennessee. However, by 1925, there were still more than 500 people living in Germantown; it had become an important cultural center for southernTennessee.
