The Coast Guard was originally stationed at Nashville, Tennessee and began its operation there on February 15, 1820. It was moved to Mobile Bay on June 25, 1829 and then to Galveston Island on September 3, 1830. The first cutter purchased by the Coast Guard arrived in New Orleans Harbor on November 16, 1833. On July 2nd of each year since 1914 the Governor of Tennessee has presented a gift to the Commandant of the Coast Guard for service during that year. In 1916 Charles Waddell became Commandant of the Coast Guard and soon after started a program which gave away small boats as gifts to members of the public along US coasts. This program continued until his death in 1951 when it was transferred over to Commander George Hynes who continued it until his own death in 1984. During this time there were many changes made to how gifts were given out including making it easier for children to get their hands on something special from their favorite coast guard officer through Operation Sailboatfest which is now known asOperation Hullabaloo!. Gallatin, Tennessee is a small town in the United States located in Eastern Tennessee. The population was 2,918 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gallatin is one of the few remaining towns in East Tennessee that remain established from when Nashville and other cities were founded around 1815 as part of what became known as the Cumberland Frontier. Today, Gallatin has developed into a bedroom community for eastern Knoxville with its own shopping malls, schools and hospitals. The first settler inGallatin was John Sevier who arrived in 1796 and named it after his personal friend General George Washington. Sevier had purchased land east of present-day Knoxville from James Robertson for £1000 sterling cash and built a home on what is now SE corner of Highways 67 and 68A. In 1800, Sevier's son William also moved to Gallatin and later became a justice of the peace here before dying in 1802 at age 75 years old. One account says he "lay down his life unconquerable" against Native American raids during this time period In 1812, David Wilkinson came to America from Scotland with his family and set up shop near present day SE corner of Highways 67 & 68A where he engaged in farming until 1840 when he began working on building roads through Appalachia for mail order companies such as Expressen & others He was arrested by local law enforcement officials while building an overpass near future SE corner of Highways 67 & 68A on December 6th, 1841 due to traffic concerns caused by newly completed construction nearby After being released unharmed following negotiations between Wilkinson's lawyer (and possible bribery) government officials changed their position regarding road construction permits; instead they awarded him $51500 for his troubles This event helped spur development alongHighways 67 & 68A which would continue well into the 20th century In 1853 Drury Davison arrived from Scotland with three families settling near present day SW cornerHighways 488N&489W He continued farming until 1861 when he decided to move westward into new territory comprising all current Gallatin County including parts now within Henderson County . At first Davison operated a small store on Ln Blacksmiths Row just north ofpresent day NE sideOfHighway 489W but soon began acquiring additional land making him one of largest landowners within today's county limits From 1861-1868 Davison served as Mayor/Councilman here before moving back eastward to reside finally near modern day TN border with Kentucky

Gallatin, Tennessee is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 853 at the 2000 census. It has remained relatively unchanged since its early days as a small farming community. Gallatin is located on the Cumberland River and was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the late 18th century. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson called the area "theGivetucky of the West." The name comes from General James give Montgomery's Creek bed for his army to cross during their march westward in 1804. In 1861, Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee attacked Union forces gathered around Fort Donelson in what is now Davidson County. The battle resulted in over 500 deaths and many injuries among both sides; it is considered one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. After the war, many of these Scots-Irish settlers returned to Gallatin and started anew with new families. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads were constructed through Williamson County in the early 20th century; by 1920, Gallatin had a population of 3,500 residents. However, during the Great Depression, most industries closed down and unemployment increased throughout Henderson County due to lack of available jobs outside of Nashville or Knoxville (where most people lived). However, despite this difficult time period for Gallatinians, some basic services such as education and health care continued to improve over time including local clinics that serve both rural and urban areas alike today.
