National Guard gifts have been a part of Franklin, Tennessee since the early 1800s. The first national guard unit in Tennessee was organized on November 5, 1861, when the Confederate States of America was formed. From this time until 1865, the National Guard played an important role in the state's defense. In 1923, the Tennessee General Assembly authorized the establishment of a national guard post in Franklin. This marks the beginning of a long history of national guard units stationed in Franklin. Today, there are three active brigades and two reserve brigades serving in Franklin as part of the Tennessee National Guard. The first national guard unit to come to Franklin was Company A from Lamar County. Company A arrived on October 1, 1921 and served for two years before being reassigned to Knoxville. In 1922, Company B from Hardeman County arrived and served for one year before being reassigned to Williamson County. In 1924, Company C from McMinnville came to town and served for four months before being reassigned back east to Lamar County. In 1925, company D from Murfreesboro also arrived and served for four months before being reassigned back east to Knoxville. Throughout these years companies were raised and disbanded without ever staying put long enough to make any real impact on local defense efforts or become known as "national guards." However, in 1931 company E from Gallatin County came into town and quickly became well-known throughout town due its high quality standards and attention to detail when it came To building huts or erecting fences around town proper (a rarity at that time). After just a few weeks Company E had erected 10 miles worth of fencing around town proper! It wasn't until 1935 that company F from Lauderdale Counties finally arrived after spending many years languishing eastern Tennessee waiting their turn in central TN . After only 2 months service they were ordered back east again where they remained until their finally retired by orderof Governor Goode during World War II . Today we still remember these pioneering officers who risked everything for our great state- thank you for your service!

Franklin is a small town in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,745 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Cumberland River and borders Hardin County to the north and west, Knox County to the east, and Sevier County to the south. The original inhabitants of Franklin were French Canadians who had moved from Quebec in 1759. After taking up land near what is now Nashville in 1796, they named their community after Benjamin Franklin, an Englishman who had served as a delegate to Congress during the American Revolution. By 1800, most of the francophone residents had departed for other parts of Tennessee or Canada; but some remained behind and began to build a new community around what is now Franklin. They named it after themselves – "Franklinville". The first settler was Pierre-Antoine Lafitte. In 1802–3 James Robertson built a ferry crossing over the Cumberland River at present-day Stevenson for trade with various Indian tribes along his boundary with Knox County (then part of Virginia). This early trade helped lay the foundation for future commerce in this region and led to increased settlement by Scots-Irish immigrants from Ulster province in Ireland starting about 1810. In 1814–15 Andrew Jackson was elected president of America and soon afterward began building roads and bridges throughout much of what is now Tennessee that would make it easier for settlers to reach new lands he hoped would be opened up by his policies (e.g., Creek Nation). Some elements of these settlements – such as Newbern – became incorporated into Franklin when that community grew up around it on former Cherokee land grants given in 1818 following Indian Removal policy implemented by President James K Polk under which many Native Americans were forcibly removed from their homes without due process or compensation. A post office was established at Franklinsville on November 15, 1830; however it closed within two years because no one wanted to deliver mail there! A stagecoach stop known as Winchester Station was also established hereabouts until 1840 when a rail line extended northwestward from Nashville across Ironton Reservoir into Knox County providing easier access both way for goods being transported westward through that county onto Confederate Army trains traveling back eastward during that period prohibited by Union General Ulysses S Grant from transporting military supplies through that territory into eastern Kentucky etc.–thus Winchester Station effectively vanished once again! In 1861 a depot built by General John Custer near present day Fort Loudoun operated here until 1865 when all mail operations ended because Union forces burned everything inside! Post office reopened at nearby Greeneville on January 2nd 1865 although postal rates have not been kept since then! The first schoolhouse called School House No 1 (now preserved as part of Greeneville Historical Monument) was erected circa 1830 just south side of current site where Young’s Creek flows today according plan offered by trustees “for erecting A Schoolhouse In conformity To The wishes And intentions Of His Honorable constituents” according datebook entry dated December 3rd 1830 written “By order Of Board OF Education convened At Franklinsville By Authority Of Law And Order From The Governour” [sic]. One can only assume this document actually existed because if it did not then someone must have made an error!!! There are several schoolhouses mentioned including: School House No 1 which stood until destroyed sometime between 1840-1860 while another mentioned School House #2 which still stands today but seems too outdated considering Middlebrook Elementary SCHOOL replaced her quite awhile ago so its hard to tell if she even exists anymore or not even though its listed separately below 😀 . The war changed everything for Franklin during those years; many businesses were destroyed or lost their ownership due to military activity or money issues related to taxes levied during wartime times. However, despite these challenges, Franklin quickly began to recover from its devastating effects and emerged as one of Nashville's most vibrant communities again by 1865. Despite some setbacks (such as significant fires), such as prohibition—a move that intensified competition within the cotton crop industry—the city managed to maintain its economic vitality throughout much of Reconstruction Era America through hard work and community activism Archer Dickerson described as "the real thing" . The post-war period saw further growth thanks largely to new investment from businessmen such as Sam Walton and Lewis Caperton; both men helped create Walnut Street corridor which anchored downtown commerce while also creating thousands of jobs across several industries including automotive assembly plants and heavy engineering projects . The late 20th century brought about rapid gentrification , however some aspects of pregentrification life still remain strong like music scenes along Broadway Avenue ; this neighborhood has been home to hip hop artists like Busta Rhymes since at least 1990
