The Air Force deployed gift history in Franklin, Tennessee on December 12, 1941. The gift was the USS Enterprise (CV-6) and it was delivered to the city by plane on December 16. The USS Enterprise arrived in a big display of patriotism and support for the United States. It was an honor to be able to deliver this ship to Franklin and show our appreciation for America’s support during World War II.

Franklin was founded in 1797 by James Robertson and his brother, Alexander. It became a town on the Cumberland River in 1812 and was named for General George Washington. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the river's main route between Nashville and Chattanooga. By 1830, Franklin had a population of 2,500 people. In 1831, it became the capital of Tennessee. As the state's largest city, Franklin played an important role in state government and social life. The city also served as a commercial center for the region. In addition, Franklin hosted several annual events such as the Nashville Convention and Visitation which attracted large numbers of visitors from all over Tennessee. The city also played an important role in developing early transportation methods such as steamboats and canals through its location on the river. By 1860, however, Franklin had shrunk to less than 1,000 people due to economic factors such as development of other nearby cities and increasing rail travel within Tennessee. In 1861, after Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina, Franklin suffered significant damage including loss of property and destruction of many businesses. However, despite this setback, Franklin continued to grow economically due to improved transportation methods and increased trade with surrounding states. After Confederate troops surrendered at Appomattox Court House in 1865, most residents moved away from town because there was no expectation that Reconstruction would be successful in Tennessee thanks to local opposition among pro-Confederate elements. By 1870 or so however, most residents had returned to their homes although some continued to live outside of town until after World War II when they too were displaced by highway construction projects that blocked access to their neighborhoods FinallyFFranklin has experienced modest growth since it lost its significance during Reconstruction but has maintained a strong sense of community throughout recent decades."

However, since 2000s efforts by developers have reversed this trend and Franklin is now experiencing rapid growth again as a cultural hub for central Tennessee.
