Farragut is a small town located in Fayette County, Tennessee. The population was 3,491 at the 2000 census and 4,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Murfreesboro–Franklin metropolitan area. The town was founded by General Andrew Jackson on October 12, 1801 as Fort Donelson. It was renamed Farragut on September 15, 1802 after Commodore John Farragut, captain of the USS Constitution and one of Jackson's main enemies. The first store in town was built by Major Isaac Greenfield in 1804. Farragut has a primary school that opened in 1907 and a high school that opened in 2006. There are also two academies for students in grades 9 through 12: one for boys and one for girls. In 2007, Farragut became home to the annual Battle Creek Automotive Museum which features classic cars from around the world. The museum is open daily from 9am to 5pm except during special events such as car shows or model nights which are open until 8pm (last admission at 4pm). Admission is free for members of the Marines Corps Memorial Foundation who provide their name and rank when they visit; $5 per person for everyone else.

Farragut was a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. It was founded in 1853 by John Farragut and his brother James Farragut. The first store in the town was built on the site of what is now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In 1865, Farragut became one of the numerous towns destroyed by Union General Ulysses S. Grant during his War Between the States campaign.
Farragut was a town in Clinch County, Tennessee, United States. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Tennessee and Muscle Shoals. The population was 1,342 at the 2010 census. The town was laid out in 1824 by Captain John Farragut as part of a land grant from Governor Isaac Shelby to Major James Covington. A post office was established in 1826, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1882. The first store opened in Farragut on December 15, 1827, by Samuel Flournoy. A Methodist church built between 1830 and 1840 served as the town's only pulpit until 1861 when a new one was erected. The first schoolhouse was built in 1830 and continued to serve as such for many years; however, it burned down in 1865. In 1881, an addition to the schoolhouse- also known as "the White House" -was constructed with funds received from subscribers to the Bank of Nashville's First National Bank charter which had been issued that year. A post office called "Farragut" was established on April 24,1828, by Colonel John Sevier Williams; it operated briefly before being discontinued on July 25th of that year. On October 2nd of that year Farragut had its first election under state law which resulted in appointment of three commissioners to run the new county seat at Elizabethtown (later Nashville). One colonel who represented this territory during these proceedings later became Tennessee's 5th senatorial representative from Memphis through his service under Andrew Johnson (1868-72). That same year also saw construction begin on what would become known as Tullahoma Dam across Muscle Shoals River from Farragut; this project would continue intermittently throughout much of 19th century due both to numerous accidents associated with its construction (euphemistically referred to variously as "fracture repairs", "watermain replacements", etc.) as well as political instability surrounding nearby Vanderbilt University property rights issues (ejections/occupation/acquisition), culminating finally with full completion just prior to World War II – making it one of America's most significant infrastructure projects ever completed!
