Farragut coffee began in 1847 as a small coffee house on the corner of Main and Farragut Streets. It was located in what is now the historic district of downtown Farragut. In 1906, the first grocery store in town opened, and soon after, Farragut Coffee became one of the most popular spots for coffee around town. The store continued to be open until it closed in 1968. In 1969, the first modern roaster was installed in downtown Farragut when J.B. Lantz & Sons bought out the original owner of Farragut Coffee Company. From 1969-2007, JBL operated Farragut Coffee as a single shop with several shifts rotating every day to ensure quality control during that time period. In 2007, JBL discontinued operations at their plant and all products were sent back to Roastersport for further processing before shipping off to retail customers worldwide. Today, there are multiple locations throughout downtown FarragUTanhandJBL operates two locations - one on Shields Street (just east of I-24) and one on Cumberland Avenue just west of I-24 - both providing great access to local flavor from some of Tennessee's best roasters!

In 1865, the town became known as "The Junction" because it was where trade Routes 31 and 34 crossed. In 1883, General William Troup sent a battalion of cavalry to burn down homes near Farragut while he was on tour through the area to suppress southern slave owners' resistance to emancipation. This event is commemorated by a statute located at nearby Union Station that reads "General Troup's Cavalry burned down these houses near us while on their way into Chattanooga." In 1906, Alexander Payne moved from New York City to live with his parents and start an advertising agency in downtown Chattanooga. He used part of his savings from selling his share in APCo to purchase land adjacent to what would become Farragut Square Park (now called Main Street). Payne began development of what would become one of downtown Chattanooga's most iconic landmarks – The square – which opened its doors on December 12, 1907. Farragut also experienced some significant growth during World War II due to its strategic location between two important manufacturing centers: Peachtree City and Chattanooga. More than 20 factories were built here during postwar production; many remain extant today including Ford Motor Company’s River Rouge plant and Chrysler’s Tri-Cities site outside of Nashville. After the war ended, much of this output switched back into regular production when new technology made it possible for companies like Kodak and IBM to locate within easy reach of major markets once again using newly developed transportation systems like Interstate Highway 40/Chattanooga Drive/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard/Fayetteville Road corridor linking all these centers together via expressways such as I-40/Chattanooga Drive/ Ulysses S Grant Boulevard/.
