Farragut is a small town in Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area and is close to the University of Memphis. Farragut is also home to the Farragut Naval Air Station. Farragut was founded in 1853 by Captain John A. Farragut as a port on the Cumberland River for steamboats transporting goods upriver to Nashville and other cities. The town grew rapidly thanks to its location on one of Tennessee's most important shipping routes, and by 1860 it had a population of 2,500 people. In 1881, Commodore Matthew C. Perry's forces burned Farragut during their successful attempt to invade Mexico City; this event has been called "the greatest single act of American naval piracy in history." In 1898, when Tennessee became an admitted state of the United States, Farragut became its capital and served as that state's seat until 1902 when it moved to Murfreesboro. In 1906, after several unsuccessful attempts at city government due to lack of funds, Mayor James Worthy merged what were then two towns into one municipality under his leadership—an event that came to be known as "The Great Merge". In 1928–29, following World War II service by local military units in Europe and Japan (including Carrier aviation operations), Farragut became an active naval air station with 3 different squadrons: V-2 flying boats from NAS Pensacola (1941-1945), P-38 Lightning fighters from NAS Lexington (1946-1950), and P-61 Black Eagles from NAS Mobile (1951-1957). On July 22nd 2013 residents voted overwhelmingly against annexing neighboring unincorporated communities such as Whitehaven Beach into town limits making it difficult for future growth without first voting on annexation requests which have yet to be received by the town council; this vote sets a precedent for future referenda if necessary allowing more drastic changes within town boundaries without prior consensus or approval from all residents

A few years ago, a small group of coffee enthusiasts decided to start an artisan-roasted coffee company in their home town of Providence, Rhode Island. They have been roastng their own beans since 2004 and have won several awards including prestigious trophies from the R.J. Reynolds Coffee Awards program and being named one of the "Best Coffee Shops" by Streetwise Magazine. The origins of the artisan coffee industry can be traced back to the late 1700s when farmers in New England began to roast their own beans for their own consumption and sale. The first time someone mentioned "artisanal" coffee was in 1892 when a reporter for The Boston Globe wrote about a new kind of coffee that was being roasted by two men called John Scofield and Samuel Morse at a farm near North Attleboro, Massachusetts. At that time, there were no regulations governing how much caffeine could be found in different types of coffees so it is unknown if these two men were using whole bean or ground beans when they made this type of coffee. In 1925, another article appeared in The Saturday Evening Post written by Julius Rosenwald which described how he had discovered that some Arabs were making fine French press coffee with only twelve grams per cup! This discovery led Rosenwald to start his Own Arabica Coffee Company which eventually became Starbucks. Farragut was a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. It is now known as Murfreesboro. The town was founded in 1824 by Captain John Farragut and his wife Charlotte. It grew rapidly due to the nearby railroad and cotton trade, and by 1830 had a population of 1,500 people. In 1829, Captain Farragut built a sawmill on the Cumberland River at what is now Murfreesboro. The mill began producing lumber for the local homes and businesses. In 1840, Captain Farragut donated land to build a school in the town. The first school building was completed in 1841 and served as the town's municipal center until it burned down in 1865. The post office at Farragut was first established in 1827; it continued serving until it merged with Murfreesboro into one entity in 1907. In 1870, a courthouse was erected on land donated by Captain Farragut; it still stands today and is used as an event hall for various events throughout the year.
