Small batch coffee history in Elizabethton, Tennessee began with the opening of a small café in 1917. In that year, Mr. and Mrs. John Knight opened The Coffee House at 5th and Patterson Streets. The Coffee House was the first small-batch coffee shop in town and it served up smooth roasted beans from their own plantation. The Coffee House was also the first place to sell packaged coffee, which helped keep the business running for many years. In 1974, the Knights sold their business to Dr. Bob Price and his wife Donna who continued to serve up delicious cups of espresso until 2003 when they closed down all operations due to health concerns. Since then, there have been several other businesses that have opened up around town that offer small batch coffee as well as some great cappuccinos too! Elizabethton is a small town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Elizabethton is known as the "Queen of the South" because it has been called home by many Confederate general and national leaders during the American Civil War. The town was founded in 1868 by three men from Kentucky: James Hays, William Hartsfield, and John Dickson. They named their new settlement for General Edmund Ewing of Union Army troops who had fought at Antietam and Gettysburg. General Ewing's widow donated land to the town. During World War II, Elizabethton played an important role in creating a strategic cotton plantation economy that supported army supply lines and produced goods for American forces abroad. After the war, Elizabethton reverted back to its agricultural roots and became a bedroom community for people living in Chattanooga until 2000 when it lost its status as an incorporated municipality. In recent years, Elizabethton has become known for its annual Christmas parade which attracts thousands of people each year on December 5th across downtown from First Baptist Church to Main Street Bridge

Elizabethton is a small town located in Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,591 at the 2010 census. Elizabethton is part of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the county seat of Weakley County. The community was founded in 1800 by James Todd and his family. In 1806, it became a post office under the name Newbern; in 1827, it changed its name to Elizabethton after Queen Elizabeth I of England. The first settlers were Methodists who arrived from North Carolina in 1794. early growth came with cotton production which began on an extensive farm near present-day Elizabethton in 1822 and continued until 1865 when a sawmill was built on what is now Main Street. In 1830, Elijah Hicks opened a general store and tavern here which he named "Hicksville". He also operated a grist mill for flour and hardware.) By 1840, there were six stores in the town with one feed store and three blacksmiths operating their shops alone or together. That same year saw heavy investment into new housing developments as well as businesses surrounding Main Street including two stores (the first being Wigglesworth's) that had been built since tobacco production increased during the 1830s around this time period along with other new buildings such as a schoolhouse and Masonic Lodge No 1 (1837). During Reconstruction following the American Civil War, Elizabethton became known for its "Four Freedoms" movement protests against slavery - picketing government establishments throughout Nashville while carrying banners reading "Free All Negroes". In 1865, Union forces burned down all but one building in town during their siege of Knoxville after General John Bell Hood's Confederate army routed Union troops at First Battle of Bull Run outside of town limits; this event has been commemorated annually by marking October 15th as Confederate Memorial Day in nearby Kingsport since 1907. A major fire destroyed much of downtown Elizabethton on November 24th 1870 followed by another two years of damage before permanent rebuilding began taking hold starting with additional housing development east of Main Street between 1861-1872 as well as new churches erected at various points throughouttownscape beginning with Trinity Episcopal Church (built 1871), Christ Methodist Episcopal Church (built 1872), Presbyterian Christian Female Missionary Society Chapel ( built 1886), Baptist Tabernacle/Methodist Congregationalism Temple ( Built 1911), and finally Central Baptist Church/Church Hall (Built 1924). Today downtown Liztiont features several enclosed malls including Overstock (.com) & Macy’s (), four banks (/JPMorgan Chase National Bank., State Farm Bankruptcy Court Building (), Sears department store(), JCPenney (). Other recent additions include Dillard’s Department Store () - which replaced Sears - anchor tenant JCPenney having moved from Sammon's Club (); Five Guys Burgers & Fries () - which replaced KFC ; Ford Thunderbird dealership (); Pinnacle Cinemas ()) - anchored tenant Regal Cinemas . There are also several agricultural businesses such as A&P Grocery (), Old Time Drugs (), Rent-A-Car (), Dairy Queen (), Walmart () -anchor tenant TJ Maxx
In 1819, Elizabethton was founded by Captain John Goss in honor of his late wife, Elizabeth Goss. The first settlers were a group of men and women who traveled from Kentucky to establish the town. They arrived on October 3, 1819. The town prospered for a few years until it lost its status as a tax center after the Mexican-American War. In 1827, Elizabethton became an official county seat. It continued to be an important location until the early 1800s when it slowly declined in population and economy.
