The shipyards were closed during World War II, but reopened in 1946 to build vessels for the US Navy. Elizabethton is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,566 at the 2010 census. Elizabethton is located on the banks of the River Cumberland and is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first white people to live in Elizabethton were farmers who arrived from Kentucky in 1827. They built log cabins near what is now downtown Elizabethton and began trading with other settlers in nearby towns such as Blue Springs and Clarksville. In 1830, the first school was opened in Elizabethton by Dr. John Craydon. By 1835, two churches had been established: one serving Baptists and another Presbyterian. In 1859, an act of Congress created Hardin County and named it for General Andrew Jackson (the native son of American presidents James K. Polk and Franklin D. Roosevelt). The town of Elizabethton was platted on November 3, 1865 by David Ladd and Wm Hogg according to plans submitted by Daniel Wickersham Company attorney Elisha Hastings! The town site extended along both sides of the Cumberland River until it met its current limits at Music Road NE on December 11, 1865 when a new bridge was completed across that river providing access from East Tennessee to central Alabama! During World War II, many citizens served in the military including radio Operator Don DeVries who helped communicate with Allied troops during Operation Overlord; Machine Gunner Harry Swayne who manned positions around Chattanooga during that conflict; Airman First Class Curtis LeMay who flew over Japan during that war; truck driver Pvt Alvin Currie who transported supplies back into Korea after that country’s surrender; Sailor Third Class Edward “Ted” Flagg who fought off Japanese attack on his unit outside Okinawa; Truck Driver Pfc Leroy Jantz who drove trucks loaded with supplies upcountry through enemy territory during Operation Market Garden; First Sergeant James Murtaugh Jr., also known as Jimbo or Jimmy for his service as commander of Company G-4 detachment within 5th Infantry Division which spearheaded Task Force 66 during Liberation Day ceremonies attended by President Lyndon Johnson on May 8th – this company commanded elements supporting amphibious landing operations ashore at Leyte Gulf fifty miles north west of Manila Bay

Elizabethton is a small town in north-central Tennessee. The population was 3,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Elizabethton is named after General James Biddeford, who helped fight against Spanish colonists in Texas during the Mexican–American War. The first settlers in what is now Elizabethton were farmers and their families who arrived during the time of European exploration of this region in the late 18th century. By 1818, there were only a few hundred people living in Elizabethton when General James Biddeford and his army invaded Mexico to stop Spanish colonization efforts there. Biddeford's mission was successful, and he returned home with many spoils from Mexico including land grants that became Elizabethton Township. During Reconstruction times (1868-1913), Elizabethton experienced some significant changes as it became an all-white community under new leadership following the passage of the National Act for Civil Rights on July 1, 1870. This act granted African Americans voting rights, property ownership, and equal access to education and other opportunities enjoyed by whites throughout Tennessee at that time. This change did not go unnoticed by local black menfolk who banded together to resist white initiatives such as voter intimidation or lynching that took place during those years; this resistance would continue until statehood was attainable for African Americans in 1965. Today, Elizabethton remains a small town with its close-knit community spirit richly embodied through its annual music festival which attracts thousands of visitors each year; as well as its wide range of cultural experiences offered through various businesses and organizations located throughout townspeople have contributed greatly to its unique identity over the years including: art galleries, restaurants/bars/cafés/nightlife establishments etc... .
In 1815, Elizabethton was founded by the General Assembly of the Tennessee Territory. The town was named for Lieutenant Colonel George Alexander Elizabeth, a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. The first post office in Elizabethton was established in 1816. In 1828, the town reached its peak with over 100 residents. By 1830, however, Elizabethton had shrunk to around 20 residents due to decline in trade and development opportunities. In 1840, the last resident died inElizabethton.
